First reaction to Sigil Stone removal

Post » Thu Dec 10, 2009 8:55 am

Hi, I'm new here and decided that I wanted to make a post. I figured why not do something about Oblivion gates? The first thought I got was of the first time I played Oblivion at my friends house. He reloaded a save right before the sigil room. He made me take the stone and told me to run or I'd die. I started freaking out! :obliviongate: What did you do the first time you removed the sigil stone and watched the screen burst into flames?

I said, "That's not good." Then I ran for it, kinda like you. Seemed a much bigger deal.

I was like 'WOOOOOOOW, wait... is this supposed to be happening?', fearing I'd done something wrong.

I stood there and watched the fireworks. I thought it was pretty cool.

I did my research before I started playing, so I probably checked what kind of stone I had and reloaded. It was a long time ago so I forget most of it.

It blew me away like pretty much anything awesome I did my first playthrough. Theres still a feeling of awesome in watching the room destroy itself.

A hearty welcome to our newer posters! :icecream:

I remember my first character who closed a gate (Bobo). When he got to the level of the tower where you actually first have access to the column of flame that rises to the top of the tower, he was mesmerized by it. Walking up to it, he propped his claymore over one shoulder and reached out to touch the column of fire (mind you, still at least one level below the top floor containing the sigil stone). The result was an instant death. Fortunately, I took pity on the fact that he was not the brightest star in the night sky and gave him a free reload. To his credit, he did not repeat the error and went on to get that darn gate closed.

Bobo and his claymore eventually retired to write very bad poetry:

Bobo see monster. :stare:
Bobo draw sword.
Bobo hit monster. :toughninja:
Monster fall down.
Bobo happy.
Bobo lick blood from sword. :liplick:
Bobo cut tongue.
Bobo sad.

He has... uh... a way with words....

When I first saw it happening I was like "ITS A TRAP" then after seeing the flames get wilder I said "OH #@$! OH @#$! NOT GOOD"

I believe my first character to remove a Sigil Stone was my first incarnation of Aralin Hlerayn (one of my Morrowind characters) in Oblivion.
She wasn't best pleased, I can tell you that. We wanted to run but were rooted to the spot in awe of what was happening.

Then she enchanted a ring with it, I have no idea what the enchantment was, but hey.

This. So this. I grabbed it and flames everywhere.... I freaked out and jumped off the platform, nearly dying falling that one floor down to the top of the "oculi/prism" (for lack of a better word). I was in the process of opening a door to get away when I realized I was still alive.

I covered my eyes, as I am extremely light-sensitive, even using special-custom lenses.

Then I saw my character standing on a scorched field and did not understand. So I reloaded, grabbed the damned stone, now I am also wearing custom dark-glasses... so I just check the explosion and see I landed exactly where I was the first time.

Being the very cool and calm person that I am, I frantically ran around in circles firing off random arrows in hopes of defeating the horde of enemies that were bound to jump out at any moment... :whistling:

P.S. Yay got my first star! Haha, only took me two years

Sounds like my blonde Nord Barbarian, except for the licking sword part. Heddvild learned not to do that after the third time she cut herself.

My first Oblivion character was named Forlorna, after a character I played in Morrowind. Her first experience with an Oblivion Gate, as I recall, had her jumping through it, which she did several times, before we realized that you had to activate it like a door...

She was so shell-shocked by the time she got the stone, she just stood there expecting to die. As I recall, she enchanted a sword with "Soul Trap" from it.

I remember clearly what I did when I first removed the Sigil Stone from the Kvatch gate, which was my first one. The piller of flame started to grow erractic so I started ot back off and I raised my shield incase I would be hurt by an explostion. Then when the room went up in flames, I just closed my eyes and hoped for the best. Woke up at the gates of Kvatch, so I figured all was well. ^_^

Thank you to everyone for the welcomes and replies! I didn't really expect anyone to reply, so thank you. It seems everyone had a different way to approach them then. :)

I immediately turned around and freaked out because I hate running from things in games, and I assumed that's what I had to do. But before I even made it off the platform the loading screen cut in, so I was happy. :)
