My first real complaint

Post » Sun Dec 11, 2011 9:56 am

I started a Dunmer Battlemage character, and I went up to a fellow Dunmer in the College (Brelyna). She freaked out when I talked to her as if I wasn't a Dunmer and then told me I probably haven't spent time in Morrowind. I seem to remember in Oblivion there was at least some difference. It's not a horrible problem but it's a step down in such an amazing game.

Maybe they just didn't account for it in that situation. I play as a Nord, and people are always referring to me as one. In both good and bad ways. I imagine if I were a different race they will still refer to me, but as that race, which happens plenty in the world.

When I played as a Nord it happened too. The problem is the only time people accounted my race is when one my last playthrough bandits would comment on how my fur would make a nice rug. Nords, however, are always accounted for. It seems they paid more attention to them than other races.

People call me a khajiit all the time. At one point during a quest where I had to cook, someone expressed surprise because they thought I'd get fur in the food.

Well, Vvardenfell was destroyed and Argonians took over the southern part of Morrowind (the only area that was habitable).

So she's probably right that you didn't spend enough time in Morrowind :P

I walked into a Stormclock camp and had two people tell me, to my face, that they can't wait to kill another Imperial and that they would kill the next Imperial they saw... failing to take into account that I am playing as an Imperial.

I would take their dialogue to mean Imperial legion soldiers.

Of course, Imperials, Nords and Bretons are, for the most part, the same, in terms of looks. They are, after all, all humans with white skin.

My first playthrough character was a Bosmer, and I was called that a few times, before someone called me a Nord. That sort of pissed me off.

I HAD THIS SAME EXACT [censored] PROBLEM! IT PISSED ME OFF! BEEEEEEEEEEEETHESDA! Why you never add enough race dialogue! That's like the key to immersion!

I had my first character as an Orc. I was wearing Orc Armour and just running mindlessly around Whiterun, when one of the guards said that Orc Armour is just like their creators, strong and ugly. Needless to say, he won't be talking for a long time after that. :toughninja:

As a Bosmer I get a lot of recognition for being an elf.

So I'm sure it was just something they didn't account for.
There is after all 10 races, tons of characters and dialogue and different racial relations so there's bound to be a couple of overlooked things.

Guards always call me "little elf". My character is actually taller than Nords... Two Bosmer I met said "Greetings, sister elf", so I guess NPCs have no problem recognizing my race.

I get discriminated quite a bit as a Bosmer and the guy in the drunken huntsmen is always happy to see me due to being of the same race
