First real look at Piper and....

Uhh, what? You could easily run into problems if the dialogue in the rest of the game is like this by selecting something, and having the character say something you didn't intend. Happened to me in Mass Effect.

I'm not saying its a huge problem, at least not to me, but it is vague.

Welllllll, I kind of agree with those that post they are bothered by this part of the new dialog system. I too would prefer to know exactly what it is my PC is going to say before choosing it. I get the feeling I might be selecting things in 4 that I may not have really wanted to say, plus I liked reading the dialog with the option to skip through it if I was in the mood to since most of us can read faster than it may be spoken.

The weird teeth baring thing puts me in mind of Planet of the Apes.

And nobody beats Cass. If only she realised that shotguns weren't long range weapons.

From what we have seen so far,
Y is always a question.
A is always a positive response.
B is always a negative response.
X is always a neutral response.

As long as we get the same context we got in this conversation with Piper, the answers shouldn't be at all difficult to discern.

Not to mention that, even when seeing an exact word for word dialog option, there is still the ability to say something other then what is intended, since tone is never specified in dialog options. I can recall several instances of it happening in everything from New Vegas back to Baldur's Gate. So, its really not any different.

I'm more concerned on what Speech checks will play off of. Will it just be our CHA or will we always need the right perk?

Yeah but which one has the heart next to it?

This is REALLY going to be bad when we are playing our 10+ time and just want to get through that dang dialog so we can move on with quest X.

The issue there is with those that spend $100 on lunch boxes and the game crashes or loses their stuff.

I don't have a smart phone myself (but mine can do flips) but if I did I would be playing this ... but not buying anything.

Voice acting looks good. Bet she has a quest about exposing corruption or something, i could see the journalism stuff being pretty interesting

 Ah yes, I forgot about Farengar. He truly is the pinnacle of voice acting, I mean such raw emotion that he conveys in his lines!

Thanks man, that made my day.

About the dialogue choices, I'm siding with the "exact words" -crowd. I liked reading through all the options.

Awww, no old-timey reporter talk.

"I swear, that's real baloney, y'all."

... would have been more suitable for radio journalist anyway. THREE DOG.

I like peanut butter and jelly sandwiches.

I immensely enjoy masticating the savory concoction of a butter made of peanuts, and smashed and preserved berries, both spread upon sliced breads, pressed together, so the spreads are touching and they become one.

Same meaning. Different words.
All of those options give the gist of what you are going to say, which will be within the parameters of the gist, because well.... that's how gists work.

I thought this worry was quelled a while ago. Don't understand how it is an issue.

I just had to watch that dialog sequence like three times in a row!

The animation looks great to me. Especially considering that in the past that hasn't exactly been Bethesda's strongest area...

I probably wouldn't have thought of it if someone hadn't brought it up, but I have to admit I was a bit disappointed she didn't speak like an old-time newsie... ;)

Interesting. Her character model gives me Rage vibes, and that's actually a good thing as the character art was the best thing about that game .

Yes. They said it ends with a Piper and the SS talking. It was when they also confirmed we can romance followers.

If you were in a restaurant, the first line would make the waiter say "Enjoy your sandwich, sir!"

Waiter's response to the second line would be "... just take the sandwich."

Is piper's jacket supposed to look like it's made from one piece of plastic? Or is this just the new 'look'? I thought the 111 suit had the same problem but then assumed it was actually made of rubber.

At least it's pretty close. I was afraid it would be like Mass Effect with the options being way off from what they say.

I made the same comment and reddit and i just got this comment :

"If you're implying that it's bad, it's actually a pretty bad video. I saw this same cutscene/conversation at Quakecon and it was much better.

This video is pretty framey and out of sync."

Can someone confirm this? Because i hope that guy is right.

Context applies for both PB&J and F4 dialogues, though.
Even in that situation which you've blindly put me, where I am apparently now ordering a sandwich and not simply proclaiming my like/love of PB&Js, I am after the sandwich. And I gets a sandwich- further illustrating that either dialogue serves the intended purpose.

I had occasional problems in New Vegas too. I remember asking about the NCR, thinking it would give me, you know, contextual details on whatever quest I was doing at the moment. Instead the NPC was all "You haven't heard of the NCR? Have you been living under a rock?" Obviously I know who the NCR is, [censored]. And in the Witcher 3, I got so many nasty glares from Yen after I said something way snarkier than I intended.

She's definately got the Newshound thing going for her. Not as transatlantic as I would have liked, but she's got that kind of sass I like.

I don't know why but for some reason I was expecting her to be a red head. Hmm, strange.

Watching it again it looks to me like her forearms are WAYYYYY too long. It just bugs me a little. Everything else looks pretty good and I can't wait to dive in.

And another thing I noticed, our protagonist isn't wearing any armor. This would seem to indicate we meet her very early in the game and she may be the one giving us the exploratory initial quests.
