First time ive played Morrowind in years

Ok years ago, my first entry to the Bethesda games was Morrowind on Xbox, and im not gonna lie. I DISPISED the game. I was inexperienced with any type of rpg sandbox game before i played it and didnt understand the fundementals of it. The game literally turned me off to Bethesda games for years. I passed on Oblivion because of my experience with morrowind, then one day got inot FO3. I loved the game, it had things int he game that was absent that i felt i needed in Morrowind, and didnt knwo until later that the same Bethesda that made FO3 also made Morrowind. Well loved FO3 so much that i thought i give Oblivion a whirl. Fell in love with it also, was playing both games religiously for years until FONV came out. It was good but i missed the open "alive" enviroment, story was great just didnt care for the exploring. Well Skyrim comes out and of course im all over it and still all over it massing over 400 hours into it. During this whole time, i never thought about replaying Morrowind because it left such a bad taste in my mouth Well gave in and tought id give Bethesda more money and go ahead just be able to own the game. Well as i was DLing the game came across Morrowind Overhaul http://morrowindoverhaul.rpgitalia.net/ . Thought hey its an ld game and i know the superficial me to even enjoy it will have to look somewhat good, yes i know petty but hey i human. Well get the mod dlign and working and start my new game.

WOW, i was really stupid way back then because this game is very awesome! I love hell just the regular quests and how thye are giving and need to be performed. The landscape and the locals and damn. I having a blast! Maybe its just that ive grown somewhat into a "challenge me TES!" type person and this game is great and in no ways hold urs hand but gives just the right amount of information to complete. Pretty much all that im saying yal all knwo about it. its just great that after all these years, the game that left the worst taste in my entire life...scratch that Chrono Trigger "2" did, well you knwo what i mean and to come back after all these years and its still amazing and can tell how genuisly well done the game is. just wow.

I remember I got Morrowind for Christmas one year or something, or Xbox when I was just a little boy. Back in those days I used to go on GameFAQs or similar websites and read guides, walkthroughs, and forums posts all the time to really get into the game, so I knew about Fargoth's ring and his treestump stash before I even opened the Morrowind box. At first I remember being pretty bad at the game, all of my characters svcked and I did horrible. The best one I remember was Voldemort (lol) my generic Breton mage who wore any armor I could find underneath his robes in an effort to make him at least a little more survivable.

Needless to say he got discontinued after a few levels. My first real successful character was an Dunmer ranger type who wore medium armor, but he too was sullied because I used all sorts of cheats and though I progressed far enough to get to the Ashlander camp I didn't enjoy him because he was built with cheats, and ultimately I would devolve back to my trusty 'constantly restore HP' cheat whenever I got in trouble. So I put the game down for years, and I didn't pick it up again until I had literally forgotten my old cheats and could start over legitimately, which I did. I made a mage character, Dunmer this time, and he actually completed every Main Quest, plus House Telvanni and maybe the Tribunal, all without cheats (except for beating Almalexia, I fortified my heavy armor and longblade to 100 each to wear heavy ordinator armor and wield Nerevar's sword, and it still took fifty tries to beat the Queen Mother...) He was really successful though ultimately I quit playing him after defeating Almalexia in a dishonest way, there wasn't much left to do anyways. This character was interesting because I used levitate alot and really began to explore, getting over my fear of dungeons and the wilderness - one day I played hookie from school and spent the entire day wandering around the Sheogorath region. Of course I ended up never really using my magic even though he was a mage, I thought (and still do think) magic is underpowered. Instead I had a mega-enchanted ebony staff and Magister Aryon's gauntlet to summon three atronachs at once, so I wandered around with a batallion of summons, whacking stuff with my staff.

Then later on I picked up the game again on PC, and remade my old Dunmer Ranger. Same face, same name, and at least similar skills and I played him legitimately this time. Having the game on PC is quite the blast, I'm using MGSO 2.0 (big compilation) as my only mod right now, and I love it.

Morrowind is an amazing game, and I don't think another one like it will ever be made.

Ya playing as a Nord Sword and Board wearing heavy armor, gonna play him as a merc. Anythign for the money that way ill experience alot more ofthe content hopefully. Other than looking at the post about differences between morrowind and oblivion, havent read anythign spoiler wise, so this be the first TES game im goign at without a stradegy guide...im excited. Only reason why i looked at that was to make sure i dotn hurt myself becoming a vampire and such.
But ya, thats the same mod im using i believe and only gonna use it. So gonna play morrowind and try to beat it and all the expansions, then move on to oblivion, then move back to skyrim and hopefully by that time a new DLC comes out lol. Get to see the differences and such between the games as far as mechanics. i gotta gist whats to expect between them, and i know that they have different mechanics so wont harp on it because alrdy been there and had fun with those two games and to me thats all that matters if im enjoying it.
But ya, with that mod the game is gorgous and id be hard press that the game be 10 years old or close. I think thats also making a difference or factor in why im also enjoyign morrowind this late in the setup lol. i know petty but an its gorgous! Aint got far so far because im actually ahving to follow directions and not whats on a map or quest markers, which i usually turn off anyways but its implimented in the game so well that if ya pay attention, u dotn need them and really enjoying that even though i am getting lost quite often. making it really tempting to look at soe spoilers or guides lol, but gonna let this be my first TES game without stradegy guide and hopefully itll make a great impression to were i wont make another mistake of ever buying one again lol to ruin the game somewhat.

My first taste of Morrowind came in 2006 right before Oblivion was released. My eldest sister had somehow collected a GOTY edition while at college, and since she was completely disinterested in the game she gave it to my eldest brother. Being 17 or 18 at the time he picked up the game without a problem and proceeded to spend the next several months immersing himself in it, but I was only 11 at the time so I didn't understand the premise of the game at all. Suffice to say, my first taste of TES was not a good one.

Nevertheless, I picked up Oblivion on my 13th birthday because I had been impressed by some screenshots of the game in a Game Informer magazine. A combination of gameplay streamlining and my own mental development made this the first TES game that I was really able to appreciate, and I spent dozens of hours exploring the world and having fun in that game. However, I didn't invest any time learning about the history or nature of the world I was moving around in, so although I appreciated the game, I was never immersed enough to become a real fan.

So when Skyrim was announced two years ago, I was intrigued but not excited. I didn't even notice when Bethesda started releasing footage of the game in action, and when the game was finally released, I ignored all of the hype. Even when my eldest brother bought a copy of the game for himself, I took very little note of it.

But when Christmas '11 rolled around, my dad asked me to help him shop for gifts for the family, and when it came time to find a game for my younger brother I really didn't know what to suggest. As far as I knew, 2011 had been a pretty lackluster year for the PC. But after a little research and the previous recommendation of my older brother, I was convinced to pick up a copy of Skyrim for my younger brother.

And despite it's relatively unsophisticated gameplay, that's the game that got me hooked on The Elder Scrolls.

To my shame, I began playing my brother's copy of Skyrim on his PC - a lot. In fact, Skyrim grew on me so much in the next few weeks that when my brother's graphics card randomly died some time later, I spent the following two weeks reading EVERY book in Skyrim on the Imperial Library website. And after that, I was inspired to begin playing some of the older Elder Scrolls games - namely, Daggerfall and Morrowind - and now I enjoy both of them on my own PC. A LOT.

So, thank you Bethesda. I've now lost hundreds of my good time on your infernal devices.

Something that'll help ya if you haven't found it already yourself. In your journal, if you go to options, you can check all active quests there and sort notes by the quest instead of having 295 pages of notes to sift through.

You DO know that candles, lanterns, torches, and stuff are portable? ...and that they leave a few of them in plain view, lying around the Census and Excise offices where you start? I'll let you figure out the other options.

Firstly, if you want proof that gamers are getting dumber go to YT and watch the first five video's of practically any Morrowind LP and cringe, as they make bad character choices because they haven't read the manual, they go to Casius who tells them to go get a decent weapon or spell, join a guild, etc, and get some skills.and they completely ignore him and click on duties to get the first main quest to get the puzzle box. They go to the bridge and then get really frustrated that they die, that the enemy is stronger than them and then start on a continual complaint about Morrowind just because they don't know how the game works because they didn't read the manual and/or didn't chck for mods!

I myself am playing Morrowind using Morrowind Sound and Graphic mod 2012. I also have about 50 other mods with it. The great DN_1st_Person mod that takes third person animations and makes them first person, so you can see your shield and sword swinging to and fro as you walk (if equpped, you can look down and see your arms moving in not armed, the walk isn't a "glide" anymore, but a proper gait, and sneaking animations are more realistic as is running. Also have other unknown mods like Antares Big mod, arrow De-knocker, P.R.E 4, Travelling Merchants and others that I doubt many know of!

With the Sound and Vision mod, plus all the gameplay mods, this game is now a vanilla Oblivion beater to me!

Return to III - Morrowind
