Yes. Enemies are scaled to your level in the game. You might have to turn the difficulty down.

Novice is the appropriate difficulty while playing for the first time and getting comfortable with the game.

The only things that can kill you on Novice are bosses, which will only be able to kill you if you let them. You'll have the most relaxing journey on this difficulty.

As far as grinding goes, as the other guy said, the game is scaled to your level, but some dungeons and quests (not including the main quest) are recommended at higher levels.

One thing Bethesda got right with this game is you can play it naturally without being forced to grind anything on the default difficulty setting.

It can't hurt - if you find it too easy you can increase the difficulty at any time while you play. All that the difficulty levels do is multiply or nerf damage you and the enemies do to each other.

If there was ever a game where grinding is a complete waste of time, it's Skyrim. If you find yourself too weak for the encounter - which can still happen despite level scaling, some enemies and locations have fixed minimum levels and some are just naturally more challenging than others - just walk out and try one of eleventy billion other quests or caves. No grinding involved, just natural progression and discovering new content, and you won't even notice when you get ready for that tough battle. Unless you happen to fall into the Sightless Pit with a brand new character, the one place where "just walking out" is... not a very viable option. Then pray for your miserable soul.
