Fishing, please fix it.

Post » Mon Mar 24, 2014 4:45 pm

Dont know about you guys but I was very disapointed with the fishing system they got in place. I really was expecting more then what it is at the moment. I was hoping it would be something like or even better then in FFXI. Would get into what I think is wrong about it and what should be done to fix it but I dont wanna spoil it for those that where not part of the beta test and I'm not sure if I can even talk about it in the open forum.

I found it quite enjoyable for the most part. I only wished that your line stayed in the water indefinitely until you pulled it in, regardless of whether a fish had bitten or no.

Personally I don't think there's anything particularly wrong with the system itself at the moment other than I'm still not entirely sure what the fish are for other than selling them to a vendor.

I spent an hour collecting fishing bait from various sources and used it all on a several fishing holes and got nothing but 2 types of trophy fish and used bait. Nothing was usable in crafting or had any purpose that i could find. If this is intended then i would say fishing is useless.

I have heard (lol) that at higher levels fish you catch can actually be used in cooking recipes. To me that is the only reason to have fishing in a game.

P.S. I hope that is true but would implement it at all levels.

P.S.S. Or a home to mount my "trophy".

I haven't heard of the actual use of fishing yet. Can someone explain exactly what the point of it is?

I figured the fish would be used in provisioning, but I didn't find any recipes that allowed for that (only got to the high 20's in the skill though).

My results were completely different.

I got, in no particular order:

3 rare fish on the starter zone (for the achievement, i just was lucky to fish it 3 times...)

around 4-5 Wet Gunny Sacks - They had different items for crafting mostly blue +, I remember 1 exactly as it had 2 runes for enchanting, 2nd tier blues

Plenty of fish to sell for gold - No use for provisioning yet :stare:

Pretty sure there are other things there, probably treasure maps, gold, weapons/armor, etc, we just don't know for sure and probably won't know until the game is fully out and people start fishing as a distraction from everything else.

I'm assuming that you can use the fish in cooking.

You know what happens when you assume.

That is one of the issues (at least at lower levels). No fish recipes or fish to eat.

Non-disclosure agreement. You can talk about whatever you want about the game freely now.

With the NDA in effect that was forbidden.

I saw a list of all the fish somewhere and achievements you can unlock. I think you should get something special if you catch every fish on the list, beside an achievement title .

I hope fishing has some game to it like vanguard, not just click and catch like eq1 or wow.

kk, cool.

Well, fishing is way to basic making it just a small step up from catching by hand in Skyrim. Was expecting and hoping for alot more then what it is. Would have been nice if they made it into a mini game where you have to fight the fish to reel it in successfully. You should need to buy a fishing pole not just bait to be able to fish. There should be different kinds of fishing poles/bait/lures for different kinds of fish. Fishing nodes svck big time!!!!!!!! Seriously hate that alot! Should be able to fish any where I like in a body of water that has fish and not be restricted to some miserable fishing node that runs out of fish and vanishes...... :flame: Fishing could be something you level up as you fish allowing you to catch bigger and better fish as you go. Make fishing interesting and useful!

I play FFXI and its a 11 year old game. Its fishing system is far more advanced and interesting then what we got in ESO. Sorry but I was really expecting alot more then what we got. I seriously hope they can fix fishing cuz as is right now its boring and seems to be pointless at the moment plus making you fish at a node is seriously lame.

Non disclosure agreement.

That thing you sign in beta that says "you can't talk about this stuff until we tell you you can".

What ever happened to fun fishing systems.... Like Breath of Fire 3, Legend of Zelda: Links Awakening, Legend of Legiea, ect. Hell even adding a "mini game" of bubble pop or some damn thing would be more fun....

Well, fishing in real life is horrifically boring without alcohol. Fishing in ESO is horrifically boring without alcohol. I'd say they're right on the money.

Seriously though, this is a fantasy game with a vibrant, living world to interact with. I just don't think there's as much demand for an in-depth fishing mini-game as you'd like there to be.

They never intended fishing to be a minigame. It was literally added as an afterthought because people wanted it.

It's... about a third of the way between WoW and Vanguard at the moment. As in, a little bit more to it than 'click and catch,' but not a whole lot more.

Not a make-or-break issue, but I would certainly appreciate a bit more depth to it myself.
