Fist-fighter?

Post » Sat Nov 13, 2010 1:33 pm

I was thinking of making a fist-fighting character, basicly.

This character would be most likely an orc, stupid, yet being able to harness inner energy to blast foes.

He would use restoration and destruction (on touch spells) alot, most likely wittling them down with hand-to-hand fighting, using athletics to move around quickly and avoid blows, along with light armour, and then finishing them off by using inner energy (a touch spell) to kill them. Also using restoration as a kind of "focusing" spell, I:E RPing the heals as adreneline rushes, and the fortify spells as concentrating on himself. Perhaps I may toss alteration in there too, for the shield skill.

Would somthing like this be possible to play, or am I kidding myself? :L

Unarmed is a tough character to start with, but can be pretty powerful as the game advances.

You may want a fallback weapon, like a club or other melee type weapon until your Martial Skills are up to the task.

You might consider taking Restoration as a major skill with a Hand to Hand character. The Absorb Health spell that you get with it would make a handy enemy-weakener, while restoring you.

I have to admit, there seems to be something about beating someone to death with your bare fists that is unlike anything else.

It's a great way to de-stress after a hard day at work. To heck with meditation and breathing exercises

As long as you are ok with forsaking what enchanted weapons and poison can do, go for it. :)

Since magic alone can make you very survivable and deadly, magic plus fists will work.

I think the idea sounds great, I tried hand to hand on my character once, I wore only Resist Cold Pants and Daedric Gauntlets enchanted with a boost to unarmed and it was fun.

Becoming a vampire would be helpful and don't forget to read the book out side of the aylied ruin right across the sewers.

And go watch the fighters who are sparring in the Arena district, outside the arena. Just watch them for a while... :)

Idea sounds great, one of my characters was a H2H-er. Get your Endurance up fast. Restoration is a good as a major, as well as Alteration. You will need a backup weapon for several levels. When you hit level 50 in H2H, you can kill the undead with your fists. I've found, that Acrobatics is far more useful than Athletics. At level 50 in Acrobatics, you pick up all these dodge moves, which turn out to be pretty invaluable as a fist fighter, especially when you get mobbed by three or more. These dodge moves help me break contact when I am mobbed, giving me a little breathing room.

And... think Agility. The higher your Agility, the less often you are staggered. This is the point where my guy would usually die, at least in the early levels... at about level 18, my guy started to shine, and then he went on to kick serious ass. I would get staggered, and the enemy would flurry attack, and it would hurt... badly, if not outright kill me. Tough in the beginning, but really a lot of fun later on.

Another approach would be the way my custom Alchemist Severus Snape took to fist fighting. It was late in his career that he decided to boost his strength by learning to fight with his fists. He had the fallback to the powerful sword and magic fighter he was by then. It was indeed stress relieving to punch someone who was trying to kill you.

I think you should also use Steriods Alchemy.

It is definitely the hardest main-weapon choice you could make but is pretty fun. Disarming and paralyzing people with your bare hands as you become more skilled is a blast. I suggest you take marksman or destruction as an emergency backup though. Fist fighting the gatekeeper for instance, is pretty damn difficult.

I find the only real problem with hand to hand is that it gets sort of tedious late in the game. It's really impossible to do a whole lot of damage with just your bare hands, since you can neither enchant nor poison them, so you're stuck with base damage. If you put some effort into restoration and/or alchemy (and consider taking The Lord for a birthsign-- Blood of the North is very handy for fistfighters), then you can generally last out a battle well enough, particularly when you get to the point that you're disarming and/or knocking down your opponent on strike. It's just that, even with that, they go on and On and ON as you oh-so-slowly whittle your opponent's HP down.

Having some really deadly magic to finish an opponent off could help with that, but I find that if I have really deadly magic, I end up playing a mage, whether that was the plan or not.

I don't understand, people always say get your endurance up fast. How do you get your endurance up fast?
Also why would alteration help him?

1. By training Heavy Armor, Block and Armorer.

2. Shield spells.

I used unarmed a little on my former priest character, Kiva, and it was a lot of fun (if a little difficult).
I kinda wish we could get knuckledusters and things that would enhance our unarmed damage like in Fallout.
