[RELz] Five Blind Mice v1.1 (Quest)

Post » Tue Feb 08, 2011 3:56 am

My character is level 42 and is loaded for bear.
Spoiler
Bow of Shock 20 pts and enchanted arrows with countless bolts of fire/shock/frost and two conjured wraiths had no effect on skeletons. Switching to an enchanted amber mace also did not make a dent and the arrows of erno, while endless, were ineffective. I finally gave up and ran around them.

Cobl races changes the stats of characters to enhance balance. The message you get while loading the mod for the first time is about script changes. Something about a "Compile all" order. Evidently, this mod compiles and affects other mods that change vanilla scripts but supposedly it can be fixed using Wrye Bash.

He is. Can you give us some more information about the choices you made before reaching that point?

We're putting together a bug-fix log for version 1.1, but the Cobl fix will probably not be in it. One of our main scripters is away on vacation right now.

Yes,

Spoiler
He will tell you to run, and then run ahead of you through the section of traps and big shadows.
This is strange, because there's never been a recorded bug of this happening before, and nobody else seems to be having trouble with it.

Just to make sure- do you have the newest, patched version of Oblivion? And are you running any script extenders? Lastly-
Spoiler
There is an autosave point at the very end of level 3. Reload from there and go through. Walk up the stairs and Torrin should start running. See if he does. If he does, follow him through the chase sequence until you reach the end and see if he talks to you then.

We've already looked into this bug. No, the mod doesn't actually effect anything in Vanilla Oblivion. However, Cobl and Wrye Bash are low-level enough that they do not work properly with Oblivion's own "Compile all" Command. Our scripters used 'Compile All' in the past on the mod, and that puts some kind of inherit tag in it that will make it conflict with Cobl. In order to fix it, we're going to have to deconstruct the mod using Wrye (uncompile it) and then rebuild it. However, the one of us that has Python installed and working properly is currently on vacation- so a a cobl fix likely won't be coming until later.

I fixed my problem..

if you run before Torrin you game will stop.. you should make some sort of thing so that you cant move until torrin is over the traps..

Found a bug myself: Right when you enter the Abandoned mine and approach the large cave where the "looters" are stationed, there is the nVidia black screen bug right after the quest update. I switched over to bloom to avoid the problem, but might want to check it out.

Also, the skeletons are incredibly tough. Not so much that they aren't beatable, but their hit points are extreme. I was summoning Midas' anti-undead Angel, my companion from Heart of the Dead, Wintermoon, and using my Midas Nuclear Blast spell, and barely making a dent. Through simple persistance, yes, they can die, but it shouldn't be so time-consuming. Perhaps let us in on a weakness? I went around your little excessive hit point skeletal monsters finally when I used Midas Transmute and froze them all as gold statues. :P
Spoiler
I found the final Keeper boss easy compared to them. Died against the next boss thanks to the surprising spawn of shadow creatures who surrounded me. Will fight it out again later.

Other than that, so far so good. I hope I find all of the treasures and loot.

Are you people serious? I have had nearly no trouble with my bone buddies. I came in with two-score Elven arrows, and saved those 'till I got to

Ironwood bow (craftybits), a few cheap pieces of leather armour, and that's it. Oh, and a silver dagger I picked up in the armoury.

This mod is insane, people. It's gotten so bad on me I've had to actually make camp, cook supper, and find drinks just to get by. I have to admit, I turned level two in the dungeon, and this has to be the most fun I've ever had in Oblivion. My character is currently curled up in a bedroll on the lookout

I have to give this mod the best rating I've ever given any quest mod. This is some seriously good stuff. I just wish I had brung more jerky...

Well, I see Miyth has posted about the Cobl thing above.

And your character is lvl42 you say...
Spoiler
Ah, so the God skeletons was a real issue. I guess the current solution is to just avoid them. I believe the skeletons were supposed to be obnoxiously hard but not impossible.

EDIT: Three confirmed cases of this problem. Myself, Dowaco and UofMSpoon2.

Hmm, might need to look into this. *pokes Miyth* Any thoughts?

Haha, glad you're enjoying yourself. Makes me happy.

By the way, you posted a bunch of minor spoilers. Might want to blackbox those using the spoiler tags.
Just in case you don't know, you encase the text between the tags of [*spoiler] and [*/spoiler], without the *.
I also edited what I quoted a bit.

Yeah, I didn't assume anything, although that does make it clear that the

godly skeleton problem
isn't caused by cobl.

Thanks.

EDIT: Oh wow, my post up top was rather ambiguous. Yeah, I was noting down that there are three cases so far of

godly skeletons
. The cobl thing was a side comment.

I'm glad you're enjoying it so much :D

They do have a point though. Somehow some incorrect hp modifiers snuck their way into the mod. I checked- and the hp counts on the higher level versions of the skeletons (they only show up if your character is 18-24) have disproportionately high hp mods. I've already tweaked those back down in the build I have, so the difficulty on the skeletons shouldn't ramp up so sharply. :)

Eventough the skeletons were hard. i found it extremely fun.. before i got me a invisblity spell, i used the stone wall magic from midas to stop them following me...
- and when my bow broke it turned near impossiable.. i had to teleport out and repair it..

I have a request I'd like to make to someone that has the Elven city mod that conflicts with FBM::

In the TES editor- approximately how many squares east would the Wealdwater mine entrance have to be moved such that it does not interfere with this mod? (Alternatively, A link to the mod would be nice).

If I can get this change in today, I will upload the 1.1 fix

Here is the nexus page for the Elder Council mod. http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=22595 Its a complex installation procedure with several supporting archives.
As part of the mod there is a large city called Arenthia rivaling the Bethesda cities in size and complexity. It is on the border of the map with a stable outside the gates just to the West of the Wealdwater mine entrance. Its between the mine and the wayshrine to the west of the mine.

Hard to say.

Spoiler
I don't know. Having the Fang sword is a solid tangible reward. But summoning a giant black wolf to do your bidding every so often also sounds awesome. I guess the difference is are you a hands-on man or are you a chic..err..someone who lets others do their bidding. xD. Regardless of the two, you have the super fun Keeper Staff. Don't miss out on it! Put those Varla stones to use!

Thankyou, Dowaco. I'll look at it hopefully tomorrow. We may be able to get 1.1 out tomorrow- if not, it will have to wait until Thursday. (Some of us are going out of town for a few days). But right now, fixing for compatibility with this mod is the last thing on the list for 1.1 Unfortunately, the Cobl fix will have to wait until 1.2, because I couldn't get the python scripts working properly on this machine, and our other scripter is on vacation in Japan.

Don't say I didn't warn you-SPOILER BELOW!!

Hmm.

Spoiler
It depends. When I was making them, I planned them for different identities. The summonable creature I had pegged for evil characters, and for mage-characters. People who'd want something to hide behind for awhile. Yume generates -a lot- of aggro. The sword, though, I enjoy because of its knockdown effect. :D I was surprised the code was there, but had never been used. I'd always wanted a weapon to make me feel like Sauron; and that the fang is supposed to be for. It's an excellent crowd weapon, because one proc can send a whole group flying. Buut.. it's also a pain for its soulgem upkeep.

Mint work! An interesting and at times unsettling mod, one that I will keep in my data files for a good long while :D

The atmosphere is brilliant, and I love all the wee things that appear out of the corner of your eye. The enemies within are genuinely unsettling, and some of the scripted sequences are top notch. A genuinely unsettling moment was when

Thinkign I was in some sort of safe house at last I was dismayed to see the thick blood trail coming from the door leading up to mister whatsisface slouching there dead in the chair. It was one of those "sheeeet, I do NOT want to go where he just came from" moments and I was scared to leave that room :P

So aye! keep up the grand work! I hope you can churn out some equally creepy mods in the future :D
