Made a forum account just to say THANK YOU! - Was hoping there would be a patch today but this is just as good!.

1. This works.

2. The file is clean.

3. Thank you!!!

Tried it again... detects my card as a 7800GS.

But then crashes instantly, it actually made the problem worse.

So then I disabled my extra monitors...

Success..

So if your having problems with d3d9.dll, try disabling secondary monitors.

This seems to have done the trick. No more random FPS drops around NPCs!

You sure it's safe? Because it ran java for no reason at all and there are text files in my windows temp folder that have user names and passwords which is what some rootkits do.

Yup, it's that simple. :)

So far, yes. It didn't do that for me and I see no username/passwords in my temp folder. I just deleted what was there anyway though.

Confirmed. No virus or root kits in the .dll file. Scanned it with 3 different virus/malware scanners and it just solves the problem.

I'm just frustrated that there is no word from the developers on this blunder of a game. I mean, don't you test out your games before making it public? Good grief.

Question: didn't Fallout 3 include a copy of Dx9 that it installed in Vista ? Win 7 just because Dx10 / Dx11 had incomplete backward compatibility? I don't have it installed in either of the PCs in here, so I can't look an installed version up, however, the DVD disk has a copy of the Direct3D files from Dx9. So, there's now the question of why didn't FalloutNV do the same thing?

I'm half temped to move the dll file and run the vcredist_x86.exe in the fallout new vegas>Redists folder to see if it applies it.

N/M. Wrong file.

Guys, don't install this. It's nice that it works but it definitely has a rootkit installed:

Just because they said so?

What about all of us who do not seem to have these issues, like me? I have nothing in my Startup folder let alone a "fake anti-virus software".

There are about a gazillion other places to get d3d9.dll, however it def didn't work for me at all. Just makes it worse making it so the launcher won't even start.

The fix worked for me.

This is known to work for the NPC lag but not the movement lag.

If any one is worried about the download just put this in the run/windows search box "d3d9.dll" right click and copy then paste.

Gosh you guys act like its harder than it really is.

Nope, same deal as before using the downloaded dll file. You'll note that doing it this way, the adapter is listed correctly, unlike the downloaded version. That is part of the fix, the incorrect adapter.

Now I am going to go put back the fixed one so I can get all those FPS I just lost back.

I downloaded this file, saved it to my D drive, then ran several scans on it before doing anything more. after it came up clean on all 3 scans I copy and pasted it into my New Vegas folder. Upon clicking play I also found out that my beautiful GTX 470 suddenly turned into a 7900  However it is hard to argue with the results. I walked into the General store in Goodsprings where I had previously had horrible framerates (12fps) and afterwards it was at 64fps. WOO HOO!!!

WORKS PERFECT!

The key was to place it in the folder and then restart steam. If I didn't restart steam it would crash the launcher. Finally playing!!!
