Well, it is a random file downloaded from an unofficial, unchecked source.

Never actually considered that in my warnings in the other thread. Still, those who download it only have themselves to blame it is a keylogger/trojan/total hazard to their system.

Hence why I am not downloading it. I highly doubt it fixes anything and the file name is just...odd.

I tried this, it didn't work. It seems to work for some people but me and another guy have reported it not working for ourselves.

Out of curiosity I checked it, It does not work.

Virus scanner also said it was malicious.

What are you talking about? IT FREAKING WORKS!
I checked with latest NOD32 and it's not a virus.

I now get constant 60 FPS where I got even as low as 10 because of NPCs.

The game now identifies my card as a 7900 GS but I don't think that's a problem.

Confirming that it works perfectly for me and fixes all slowdown problems, even at 1920x1200 at Ultra Settings with a screen filled with NPCs and explosions.

Thank you for this! The game runs great now. I got very low FPS around NPCs before. Now my FPS is almost a constant 60. And it even seems that it has fixed the VATS delay problem that I also had with Fallout 3. Awesome! :D

The game thinks my card is a 7900GT, but that doesn't seem to have an impact. I scanned the file with Microsoft Security Essentials, and it's clean.

I understand that people are cautious, but now that several of us have confirmed that this is the real deal, I think you should try it out.

I can vouch for this as well. It's a Directx 9 dll and once its place in the ROOT directory for new vegas ( the one under program files > steam > steamapps > common > fallout new vegas> ) it will work.

I am running Windows 7 64-bit Ultimate with a crappy Nvidia 9600m GT Notebook GPU.

Thanks to you and also the programmer!

I tried this fix but now whenever I click play the game "redetects system settings" and puts it to medium and then I click okay and the cycle continues. Every time I try to start it just reloads the detection thing and resets the settings. I cannot even get it to start now.

Fixed this issue by using offline mode on steam. Will see if fix works.

Man, you are paranoid. You keep posting warnings about this file, the d3d9.dll. I get it, you have to be careful with this stuff, but most of us that have been using and building our own systems for years know all about checking for keyloggers, trojans, whatever other boogie man there is for you to name, etc. Dozens of people have reported this clean. I can report it is clean.

It doesn't replace anything or screw with your PC's DirectX settings or files. It simple makes New Vegas find this direct X file first and use it instead. And it works. I've done this for other games in the past that needed to use Direct X 8 (years ago). It won't affect your other games using Direct X or your system using Direct X, just this one game.

So by all means make sure everyone takes precautions, but don't yell about the sky falling. I would hate for someone experiencing this awful performance issue to miss out on a very easy possible solution because you made them paranoid it would destroy their PC.

Thank You so much for this fix!!!

My fps NEVER dips from 60, unlike before when it sometimes crawled down to 8!!!!

48 hours after a game release and the devs themselfs couldn't even solve the issues, this is the last time i'm buying a bethseda title upon launch

That is the problem. The "backwards compatibility" of DX10/11 seems to be wonky. Thus adding the DX9 dll for the game to use works.

Ahh ok so fallout NV doesnt use any Dx10 features? If thats the case then forcing the Dx9 was a slick fix for who ever came up with it.

Nope. 0 mention of it on the box.

Considering neither the 360 or PS3 are DX10+ capable, it makes sense.
