Look under rugs in your build, I've not thought of this, great idea.

Does that work? I have read somewhere, they share everything but food and water. I produce 416 units of water at Sanctuary, but when I don't establish a well in the outlying settlements, the water counter is still red, although the place is connected with supply lines.

Settlers can die, except for the ones you rescue at Concord! Just had Abernathy attacked and the original settlers died. They are named btw.

Resources -> Misc -> FT marker.

Just a quick question here... in regards to arming settlers...

Do provisioners use ammo? o.O

All settlers use ammo, that includes provisioners. Too bad Beth didn′t include an armory where Settlers can resupply themselves.

Probably in the same way the companions use it. If you leave them with their default weapons, they have endless ammo. If you equip them with something nice and shiny, you have to hand them ammo too. If that rund out, they will switch back to their defaults.

Also, provisioners seem to be unkillable. You see them go down on their knees, but when the fight is over, they are back on their feet. Hell, I saw an Alpha Death Claw stump one into the ground. Literally, probably glitches, but only the head was visible afterwards. A talking head for that matter.

I′ve lost provisioners to attacks. They are not essential, just protected.

Damn I really like the Abernathy's as they were the first friendly people my PC met. Hope I can keep them alive. Course I got enough turrets around them that maybe they'll be left alone.

Just in the last two days I learned that we can assign beds to settlers and we can fix our FT marker. WHY THE HELL is there no *&%^&% manual for this game? I'm getting so freaking tired of hoping to get much needed tidbits of information from the loading screen memos and pop-ups. The in-game manual is a complete joke. It would be really cool of Bethesda could take the time to make an instructional video on how settlements work and all the options you have there.

Settlers, provisioners and companions NOT in your group. Need only one round of ammo for the weapon they're using.

Companions traveling with you require ammo for any weapon you give them. Once dismissed they go back to 1 ammo for the equipped weapon.

That goes contrary to most information on the forums, which are that ordinary settlers don't use ammunition, but they do need some in their inventory.

Oh fer crying out loud...

Why isn't any of this information available anywhere ingame or atleast, no offence, "reputable"...

Who can die, where and how?

Who uses which ammo, where and how?

And so forth... -..-

*lol* Or at the very least here on the forums ... A Frequently Asked Questions sticky.

One thing's for certain. Everybody equipped with anything other than their default shooter, uses ammo. How much is obviously up for debate. Companions eat through theirs as if there is no tomorrow. I handed Preston some modified #38 and over a thousand rounds to go with that. A few game days and fights later, he was down to the last 100. They shoot like crazy, mostly without scoring hits.

Oh, and another thing from personal observation. If you dismiss someone, make sure to empty their ammo stock. Otherwise, if you call them up again, the ammo you gave them is gone.

Yes, and another thing I forgot. Don't hand them grenades. They use them all right, but since AI often translates into absent Intelligence, they use them when you're standing in the blast radius. It's a suicide mission to let them handle explosives.

No, settlers don't use ammo. Even if you give them a different gun, but eg. 90 of accompanying ammo type... after a fight they will still have 90.

Yes, with settlers I'm not sure. Obviously the one round rule applies when they are handed a new weapon.

Settlers definitely don't use ammo (what I give them remains in their bags forever), though I also read they use ammo for heavy weapons which I haven't checked on myself so can't confirm this.

But settlers with regular guns definitely don't use ammo.

Also, I've never had a supply line disappear from my map, so am guessing provisioners can't actually die. They probably go down on the knee then respawn later on if they did somehow get obliterated in front of you.

Gave a settler a modified Laser Rifle with exactly 100 ammo to go with. After an attack I checked. Ammo was used.

Whether that information is reputable or not is up to you. Best to check for yourself. Could simply be that my game is buggy or yours is. Who knows?

The provisioner in question died on her way from Starlight Drive-in to Tenpines. I checked that the supply line indeed was down. Furthermore, I found my provisioner along with her Brahmin dead on the road.

Should have taken a screenshot of it, but then again, I′m on PC and someone would probably just say that I used console commands.

Either your game is bugged horribly, or my game is bugged fortuitously, because none of that happens in my game. Maybe it's best you don't check on the settler bags after a fight?

I checked because I had just cleared ArcJet when the notification came in. I saw my guard using his laser rifle and was curious as to whether settlers use ammo or not. To my surprise he did. I only remember him specifically because he had exactly 100 ammo to go with. Otherwise I wouldn′t have noticed it.

A question for the others though. Do they not use ammo on their starting weapon or all?

Their defaults don't use ammo. It's actually the same with companions. What they already are packing is a freebie. Of that I'm absolutely certain. It's only that the defaults on companions as well as settlers, are pretty useless in any case.

I just tested it in my game, PC too.

It didn't use any ammo with either eg. assault rifles or combat rifles on settlers.

...

It's why all of a sudden provisioners using ammo, came as such a surprise for me. It's hard enough to manage settlers and equip them even without having to refill their ammo. Having to do that for provisioners would be major svckage.

Also *lol*...

So, how are they (settlers, provisioners and companions) supposed to work? If anyone knows...

I give my settlers better weapons (so not their start weapon), and ammo to go with it. When I check them the ammo is exactly the same as when I last saw them, even though they've been fighting (because I've seen them fight). And one grenade lasts forever, even if I fight alongside them.

Already far too much to manage with settlements, would not enjoy needing to feed them ammo as well.

Or something to check, give them a 100 and they use 99, but stay fixed on 1?

They seem to keep the whole stack in my game. I always give them a stack of up to 100-120 ammo. And one awesome grenade.

Okay, thx for the clarification gals and guys. Gotta do more testing and if it turns out that my game is bugged or certain weapon types are bugged, I′m gonna post a bug report.
