FIX THE STEALTH KILL BUGS!

Post » Mon Nov 30, 2015 7:41 am

I don't know about anyone else but everytime I sneak up behind an enemy and slit their throat or snap their kneck, everyone in a five block radius goes on CAUTION or DANGER. It's really annoying. Even if the enemy is in another room or another story of the building they still hear it. If the guy is the same room but is not looking shouldn't notice. Only if the guy is looking right at you and in close distance should they go on alert.

It also doesn't help that when you preform a stealth kill animation in first person, your guy doesn't crouch back down.

The point of stealth kills is in the name. It's to keep you hidden and stay quiet. If your gonna have stealth mechanics they need to work for that style.

It might be because as your doing the animation the enemy will yell something. Kinda defeats the purpose.

I love this game so far but this bugs me (no pun intended).

I'm not having that problem. At this point (Level 25) I'm feeling pretty OP with stealth.

I have 4 ranks in the Sneak Perk, I've collected 4 Covert Operations Manuals, and I wear clothing, not armor. I use a Suppressed 10mm Pistol 90% of the time. I have 3 Ranks in Gunslinger, and 2 Ranks in Ninja, plus 1 Rank in Sandman (which gives you a +15% damage to Sneak attacks with suppressed weapons).

I just cleared out a Super Mutant camp without every going into DANGER. I cleared out 2 buildings full of Triggermen without triggering DANGER. Remember that CAUTION does NOT mean you have been discovered, they just know something is wrong and are searching for you. If you are patient and wait until an enemy is alone, and you can take them out with one shot, you don't even trigger CAUTION.

As for how well stealth and sneaking is working - I just had a mutant hound walk in a circle around me, and SHOVE me out of the way, and it never detected me. I was in CAUTION.

My advice to you is not to consider CAUTION a failure state. It isn't like in Fallout 3 or Skyrim. Sneak Criticals still work from CAUTION, and enemies shooting at you during CAUTION are not shooting at you, they are shooting in the direction of the shot. Move and they'll keep shooting the same area, and you can shoot them in the back.

This. Oh, this.

Killed my first Mr Gutsy by sniping him, fading back till he lost me and repeating.

I'm not talking about stealth in general I'm talking about stealth kills specifically. Mainly the animations. When performed they tend to be noticed.

They'll be in a entirely different room or structure and will go on CAUTION. Whether or not CAUTION isn't spotted, they still shouldn't notice at all period. Especially with Superman sense of hearing.

Keep in mind my stealth perk is almost full, so is my ninja, and I wear all muffled clothes and use silence weapons. As well as combat knife with the stealth blade.

I can stay hidden in the shadows easily and move around without care. But as soon as I snap a dudes kneck its a gun shot went off in a cubicle.

Yep. Once you have the perks, and a little practice, you can do a Sneak Critical headshot, move to a new location, rinse and repeat until even the strongest enemies are dead. I often set up booby traps ahead of time for particularly strong enemies. A few frag mines placed in the doorway I know they'll come investigate the shot through. Frag mines blowing up don't blow your cover either if you are somewhere else when they go off.

Well, I'm guessing it's because snapping a guy's neck isn't as quiet as it would seem. There is probably a bit of a struggle, and bones breaking are loud. Of course, if we are arguing realism, a suppressed weapon would draw everyone in the building still.

:| OK now your grasping at straws. Snapping someone's kneck wouldn't be loud enough to alert enemies through walls. And there is no struggle when you do it as fast as your character does. And also slitting someone's throat or stabbing them in the kneck would be extremely quiet especially if they die as fast as they do in this game.

My point being that they put stealth mechanics and kills specifically designed for stealth yet they don't work. It's just a bug I want them to fix.

A suppressed weapons sound depends on the caliber and and distance of the target. If using cold load rounds or any kind of subsonic bullet, with a well supplied silencer shouldn't alert anyone through a thick wall. As long as the bullet isnt breaking the sound barrier then modern day silencer (in this case a futuristic one) are rather quiet.....that is of course your arguing realism.

Again though I'm not talking about general stealth or suppressed firearms. I'm talking about stealth kill animations.

A.) Use blitz. It makes melee stealth 1000x easier and infinity more OP than skyrim stealth.

B.) Spam your VATS button as the animation of that first target ends to begin any more possible sneak attacks onto nearbye enemies.

So far I love the game, the only issue I have with stealth is how annoyingly often missions give you tag along NPC's who pretty much void stealth gameplay while they are with you. There needs to be a way to, at least for encounters with the enemy, to command these NPC's to sit down and shut up and let daddy do his sneak thing. Otherwise, really like the stealth in this game.

Hmm I'll have to try that though I don't have enough to get that perk yet. Also I don't want stealth to be easier per se just more fluid and tighter.

This is the way I've been doing it. I cleared Corvega last night without a problem with a pipe sniper rifle and my 10mm handgun. The only things that really gave me a problem were the turrets because they target me better than the raiders can.

One thing to keep in mind is light - any kind of light. Sneaking outside is next to impossible without some sneak perks. Inside, I usually shoot out any spotlights or any other lights that I can.

Again, I have like one rank in sneak, level 6 maybe in agility. I don't even have ninja yet. I shoot someone, stay in sneak mode, and if I get a caution, I take my hand off the mouse and don't move. But I've been using the sniper approach; the stealth throat cutter would be harder, to be sure.

Indeed my friend :) if you sneak up behind them with a knife he'll stab their kneck, cut their throat, or stab them in the back. Do it with your fist and he snaps their kneck.
