Fixed My Problem! (Crashing after pressing play) : Fallout: New Vegas

For whatever reason disabling steam community in game fixed it. Works fine now.

Right Click > Properties > General Tab > Uncheck Enable Steam Community In-Game

No joy here. That didn't help at all. I'm still getting an error code 80 on launch.

I did finally get it running, but I had to start Steam in offline mode to get it to work. Just killing the in game interface wasn't enough.

It looks like Steam Cloud is doing something wierd to the save game files, backing them up and then corrupting them. As for why this fixes the launch bug? I dunno. It must be some kind of network gaffe with the way NV connects to Steam, but beyond that, I really do not have a clue.
