Experience boosters don't affect other people's gaming experience. They don't grant you access to special items. They don't get you into areas that other players can't access. They just let you level a little bit faster if you're playing with one specific friend. You wouldn't even know it was happening if someone didn't tell you.
Racial skills are all unique. Imperials don't have any skills that make them better than any other race in the game. Period.
Sorry you don't grasp the fact that the content is open to everyone, they aren't limiting access to the content, anyone has the option to purchase the collectors edition or upgrade to it at a later time. Now if they said that there are only 200 imperial editions being sold or limited the availability of it in anyway then it would be an issue.
You guys are missing my point :/ I'm not trying to start a discussion if it's unbalanced or not, I'm trying to start a discussion on how we could change the IE and P-O editions so ESO doesn't loose a lot of potential players.
Wow... this is why most of my responses are so venomous. People like you are just so... determined to listen to your own obviously flawed logic that you can't see how incredibly idiotic you sound.
Experience boosters give you an advantage over other players who don't have them! If you offer them to players who are willing to PAY MORE MONEY then it's behind a paygate. It's ethically wrong, and it is putting the gaming industry on a downward spiral. People like you who are so fooled by the marketing are only adding to the problem. 5-10 years from now you may be regretting the part you played.
Ok so lets hear your solution to the issue. You have a lot of opinions on how it is "ethically" wrong for them to sell the collectors edition.
What's the advantage? If I level slightly faster than you, all that means is that I reach level 50 a little faster. Last I checked, you don't get extra points for hitting 50 first, so again, no substantive advantage there. I may as well complain that the game favors people with no social life, because they'll be leveling while I'm out with my girlfriend.
I've said it multiple times in this thread already. Seriously, do you read anything before click the "reply" button?
The solution is to give things CE have always given in the past. SUCH AS: extra vanity items (pets, mounts, costumes, titles, hell even a collector's edition lounge area like TOR had), statues, artwork, soundtracks, exclusive developer videos, the making of ESO tidbits, pretty much ANYTHING that doesn't give in game advantages.
Just thought about this too, what if the rings of mara weren't given to you until something like 5-10 days after launch. I suppose why people think the rings are to much (I personally don't fyi, but this is still to cater to a bigger audience) is because it's easier for people who pay more money to get world first in a lot of stuff. I personally think that if you go for world first and stuff like that, you will probably pre-order it without a doubt. But still, a lot of people are apparently angry at this, so how do we fix it?
Alright, guys. I feel like I've made the point abundantly clear. There's not much more I can say, and I have a feeling the opposing side is going to just take this in another round of circles by bringing up things already answered and debunked. I really hope the message reaches some people at least. Don't let the gaming industry do this. Pay to win should be relegated to games that are specifically designed to be that way. Don't let it take a foothold in mainstream gaming.
How can you bring up ToR when half the game is behind paygates. I have yet to see how there is a real advantage to the items in the imperial edition.
Idea:
If you buy the upgrade then you can have the race.
Fixed.
There is nothing pay to win in the imperial edition. You get a small xp boost which you only gain while playing with a friend, you get to play as an imperial which has no real advantage. I'm surprised you aren't complaining about the mount that comes with it since it allows people access to a mount earlier than other people.
It's too late to fix anything, the people who payed for the pay wall so they can have an edge over other people will be at an uproar if anything is changed.
There is no monetary reason to change it, the suits got the money, the guys who love to have advantages payed with their money, the 2 main sources of income are happy, why the hell would they risk changing it now?
People keep opening their wallets, the suits will keep doing pay gates and cash shop items, if you trick yourself into believing that they will stop at this, you are so freaking dead wrong, they will keep adding these pathetic stuff for real cash as long as people throw money at them, end of story. They don't care about the game overall, just the people who want to open their wallets. And those people alone won't keep a game alive for more than a year.
I pray every night I'm wrong, but with all this evidence, the imperial racials shown.. it's hard to stay positive.
EDIT: @people saying that sub shouldn't get all for free, I agree to a certain degree, i'm not asking to get all future expansions for free, but when i pay the game box + sub I do expect the full game open to me at start, not pre-launch have already locked content behind money
Also "all you get is a small xp boost and a free horse, and a locked race, whats the big deal", I literally can not understand how people consider this to be such a minor issue....
If the [censored] imperial race was brought with an expansion later on, EVERYONE would be perfectly fine with it...
Meh overall I'm happy that me and my friends resisted the temptation to buy the imperial edition and give them more money to support this type if thievery.
I didn't pay to have "an edge" over others, because I don't get one. I wanted the fancy mudcrab pet, and I wanted the chance to play as an Imperial templar. I won't be able to beat you with my mudcrab. I won't play the game any better than you. I won't have access to all manner of content you won't.
This is not a cash shop. This is not a paywall. It is not the beginning of omg-p2w-end-of-the-world. This topic has been beaten to death, and I really can't believe it's been revived just to have people rehash the same arguments.
But still what do they gain most on? 5 000 canceling their IE because they don't like the bonuses anymore, or 10 000 subscribing because all of the content is now available?
Based on preliminary sales figures that were released from a third-party retailer, they're doing just fine on pre-orders.
As I said, not everyone paid for the edge, just 95% of the buyers did.
Horse isn't an edge? Giving me the mudcrab argument every time you are confronted by this seems kinnda pointless to me, why are you dismissing the horse (41k gold), and a whole race aside and argue with the mudcrab then? If you think they're no issue why are you so focused on arguing with the mudcrab? Divert attention from the issue much?...
Look, a whole race is locked from the normal players unless they pay more, if that's not a pay gate I don't know what to tell you more.
You should look for the definition of a pay wall, but I also said that EVERYONE would be fine if the race was in an expansion later on, which again you dismissed and focused on the mudcrab and the "beat a dead horse" argument....
To each their own, but that fantasy wall you created will soon be shattered.
If they gave a further discount for having access to even less races, i'd happily buy the game for $5 and only have access to 1 race. I would still be able to play THE ENTIRE GAME. My character doesn't need to be 10 different races. 1 is good. And if i REALLY want to be human, there are already 3 human races in the core game. And if I was such a huge fan that i really really really needed to play the imperial race or i really really really needed to have a white horse, well, i'd pay the extra $20 or whatever.
As far as the XP ring, many games pre-orders or special editions have had some kind of XP items. They don't give you extra content, if anything, they make you skip content by outlevelling it.
It's a nice special edition that gives some unique stuff. Good job Zenimax.
Ok, let's address these in order:
1) You don't know why anyone got the IE, but since no one actually gets an advantage over others with it, they'd have to be pretty dumb to be purchasing it for an edge over other players.
2) The horse you get is not equivalent to the 41k horses. At best, it's close to the 17k horses. So it means that I can get on a horse at a slightly lower level than someone else. It also gives me the massive advantage of moving a whole 15% faster than someone without a mount, which gets me... I don't know... a silver medal in the equestrian events for the ESOlympics?
3) A whole race that provides no substantive advantage over any other race? I'm appalled, sir-or-madam (sorry, the name and pic are androgynous enough that I don't want to assume). Appalled.
4) What fantasy? They've flat-out stated that there is no cash shop.
The reason I keep bringing up my awesome mudcrab (aside from the bonus of making you super-jealous of my mudcrab) is that it really was one of the major reasons I got the IE. And because it offers just as much of an advantage over other players as anything else in the game.
