Fixing the abomb bug confirmed

Post » Tue May 03, 2011 5:46 am

The bug was linked to the main game timer, which was incremented every frame - as the PC version has a better framerate, this time was incremented more often, and thus overflowed sooner.

Then what the *** is that 'door' Todd Howard mentioned in the interview?
And if it's linked to framerate, does that mean turning on VSync will mean the bug will be delayed?

A bomb glitch was wen the game reached 500 hours 300 on pc for sum reason.. The animation would stop i e spells, fire, the ending where akatosh showed up, doors opening npc glitching..the whole game would fall apart basically..oblivion gates wouldnt close excetera...

It did fall apart. I could hear the sound of a door opening but nothing was opening. I could see the fire and it used to flicker but there was no flickering. It was frozen still. I could cast a heal spell on myself and the image of the spell would swirl around me and never go away. It was so sad. I got hit with the A-Bomb on my first-ever game because I explored for so long. It didn't take 500 hours though. When I found the forums here, I learned to get my game done by about 365 days...a game year. Once I did that, I was ok. This was on PS3 and I didn't get the game until 2009. I still love it though. My first character was named Lacille...maybe I'll use her again for Skyrim...hope it's not a jinx.

Every game has bugs and some people do some weird things that reveal one. I for one have never ran into a bug in any TES game except Morrowind and the few I did in Morrowind weren't game breaking. I've seen other people I know in real life have a bug or two (clavicus Vile turn in bug, which I never had because I'm not giving up Umbra  and one where my friend stole the third volume of the Commentaries on the Mysterium Xarxes and glitched the quest and couldn't get the location to the meeting). So, I'm not sure why some people think that TES is unnaturally riddled with bugs, it just seems that some people go about doing odd things and just dig them up lol. Of course you going to cause some kind of glitch if you go about doing everything in the game some weird way, it's bound to happen  But isn't that really the strength of TES that it allows you the freedom to play it in such a way to you glitch the game?

Its always funny wen the devs have to patch something cuz u know under there breath they thought "how the @&$)! Did they think of that???"

But what causes the A-bomb problem to begin with? Information overload? Memory leakage reaching a critical point? Deep magic? or just a permutation of the Y2K problem?

U know how the game records everything u do?? Yeah cant record everything forever..especially ur in game time...But apparently skyrim can though

I didn't know this bug was caused by opening "this one door". Anybody any idea which door he's talking about? If it's just that one door, shouldn't it be easy for modders to fix that?

It has no correlation to a certain door....bethesda would be a bad developer if they let a bad code stay in a door animation..i dontthink thats ever happened....its in relation to how the game itself, as a whole, records all the info in game...game time, bodies, fire spells , ect....eventually it kinda "overfloods" if u will...

The same thing that limits almost everything in the game world, max 255 value hexi-decimal code.
