Flaky Companions

Post » Mon Mar 14, 2011 6:51 pm

Okay, Fawkes and Dogmeat.

Fawkes hung around for a while until the end of the main storyline

Spoiler
I fired him after waking up in the Citadel, because it seemed like an appropriate time

and he said I could find him at the Museum of History, outside the entrance to the Underground. But, I've checked there several times and he's nowhere to be found. Where did he go?

Dogmeat's a little weird, I didn't even know about the bow-wow-buddy until the Dogmeat's Puppies perk opened up (which I took) and then I found the junkyard. We were great friends until

Spoiler
the aliens abducted me, and apparently killed Dogmeat, because that's the notification I received shortly after being buttprobed

and when I got back down to the Wasteland, there were no puppies outside 101. How come?

It could take Fawkes several weeks or months to make it to the Museum. It's always best to take a follower back to their default firing place before firing them. They can get stuck on terrain or even die along the way. I fired Star Paladin Cross at Underworld and it took her over six in-game months to get to The Citadel. I was disappointed to learn she made it alive. Horrid creature.

I know, right? The game is so much less scary when you look over your shoulder and see your little dog running around behind you!

I'll keep an eye on the museum then! There's no way Fawkes is going to die. I mean, we only hung out for a few missions, but nothing could get within twenty square miles of Fawkes, not with that minigun. And he's smart, too. One time (actually a couple) I was running backwards and fell off a cliff. He went all the way around. Anyway, sooner or later he's GOT to make it back to the Museum.

Thanks guys!

Just hit "T" and wait forever lol.
And I agree, I find the very intense parts of this game become so much more bearable when I have GNR radio on, and a companion.
I just wish companions didn't die as easy, outside of Fawkes and Dogmeat.

Get a mod that flags them as essential then. They will get knocked out instead of dying so you only really lose them until the fight is over. When they recover from being unconscious their health still has to take some time to regenerate so an enemy can hit them soon after they get back up and down they go.

So it isn't really cheating or unbalancing.

I actually like that idea.
However that would unbalanced.
But I would like to see a way to ressuect unconcious followers by using alot of stimpacks, or something similar

or even die along the way.

Of course, you can rule that out with Fawkes.

Flakey companions? What about "Star" Paladin Cross? She is fkn annoying, and that's without doing anything wrong. You talk to her all cool about trading equipment (=carry a bunch of sh*t for me please) and she pipes "A Paladin well armed is in correct observance of her duty!" or some medieval crapola like that.

Fawkes on the other hand is a delight to hang out with. One time he says out of nowhere "it is astonishing that people trust you so much that they do not attack me".

Why is it that when there's talk about companions nobody ever mentions the prototype medic power armor? Now that's a companion with personality!

Fawkes is probably dead if you fired him during the final quest.

Fawkes can die? o-O, i swear that dude keeps getting pelted by rockets and his life bar does not bulge!
I remember dogmeat coming back to me after a month that I had asked him to get a gun for me with a chinese pistol.
