Flare Gun!

Post » Tue Aug 31, 2010 5:43 am

I'm thinking of using a flaregun in a mod of mine, however I was at wits end trying to figure out how to make the *ffffffffffffffffffffsssssssssssssshhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh* then slow fade.... part of the whole thing. Then I thought of the Fatman! Does it sound feasible to modify the Fatman for the job?

Your not giving much detail to what your trying to get at. You can modify any gun you want relatively easily. Give more detail other than "I want the fffffffssshhhhhh noise" so we can help you.

Very well, very well... Usually when a hero/ine fires a flaregun, you see it fly up really fast making the "fssssshhhhhhh" sound emitting smoke, then it reaches it's maximum height and slowly falls to the ground.... All the while it emits a strong red light.
Now the Fatman's fire mechanism (gameplaywise) is very similar, it goes up into the air then, loses velocity, makes a "U-Turn" and then comes crashing down. That's basically what I want except for the crashing down part.

The Rocket Launcher missile emits smoke, (scratch one) and I saw a light option for the Fatman bullet. (maybe scratch one)

So what I'm thinking is I'll chose a handgun, and then modify it. I'll just go test it for now.

All feedback appreciated. John Out.

Yea the arc of the mini nuke has nothing to do with the fat man, it has to do with the projectile properties of what it fires. You can make them go straight if you wanted, or make bullets arc drastically.

Cool :D I just found the gravity settings and whatnot. :D Thanks dude, other than that, is it possible to add a light to a projectile? I tried the light option but it doesn't really do anything :/ Maybe I used it wrong. Back to testing.

I'm not 100% sure how, but using the tool Nifskope I know you can make a custom nif for it and add light emmitance and all sorts of things to it. Someone else will give you more details I think.

not sure how its done in f3,. in oblivion only objects that could do that were lights, or anything under the light tab.

i'm pretty sure f3 is different. :)

my guess is just add a light node to the projectile nif.

Actually if you look at the projectile window, there is a place where you can select what kind of light you want it to emit. As for it actually glowing and shining, you will have to change the nif and or texture to make it do that. But it can still emit light and light up things around it.

Yes that's what I thought, but when I select a light in the drop-down menu, it does not do anything :/ I just don't get it, I've tried with various weapons and projectiles.... It just wont let me use it :/

Are you sure? All that does is make the object emit light, like if you fire a bullet with that setting set to something, and the bullet flies half a foot from a wall, the wall will light up next to the bullet as it flies. Making the bullet look like its giving off light. This of course would look weird, because the bullet is a dark solid chunk of metal. Maybe as a tracer though it would look cool. To actually make it LOOK bright and glowing like a flare, you must change the texture and settings in Nifskope.

That's exactly how I understood it, however, it does not give off light :/ I deliberately gave it a radius of 1024 and a bright colour so that I would notice once I got it working. Well I haven't. If it works for you, make an .esp and pm it to me, that way I can know for sure if I just completely screwed up somewhere.

I bet you he made a special nif for the projectile, and gave that an emmitance property allowing it too, where others cannot since they dont have that. (like bullets and such) because I swear plasma 'balls' shot from guns emit light, so I think its possibly.

Hi!
I found the Glowstick mod helpful when making flare grenades for my mod:

http://www.fallout3nexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=9673

It does not solve the problem of glowing projectile while in-flight, but has all the parts for making light effect after projectile hits something.

I made a flare gun yesterday, it fires a missile launcher missile that explodes 2 secs into flight and leaves a small flame and a flickering red light in the sky. I couldn't manage the slow falling to the ground bit, so the flame stays in the exact same spot for 30 secs until it fades. I used G.E.C.K. and only opened Nifskope to extract the flame for the flare (which I used as a model attached to the light).

The things you need to do for this is to edit a Weapon, an Explosion, a Projectile and to create a Light (with a script attached to disable and remove it after a suitable duration).

Then you attach the light to the explosion (as a Placed Impact Object), the explosion to the projectile (with Alt. Trigger set for as many seconds as you would like) and then attach the projectile to the weapon.

I used the snub nosed .32 pistol, and though it looks ridiculous with the missile projectile in 3d person view it actually looks acceptable in 1st person view.
