Floating damage?

Post » Tue Aug 09, 2011 11:49 pm

Its not very realistic to see numbers floating in front of your eyes, I like this game cause its more authentic and I don't want to see things like this put in.

What sets Beth apart from other developers is how much effort they put into immersion. Creating a living breathing world. Having floating numbers would instantly undo all their efforts.

Never been in TES, never will. It breaks immersion for me.

I get a real kick out of seeing my damage...Am I alone?

no your not alone. one other person voted with you. :) i think this is going to win an award for most lopsided poll in a long while. i hate floating numbers and not just because they are goofy looking in a TES game but because i dont want to know excatly how much health the enemy has. in oblivion on several occasion i could knock someone down with a warhammer thinking they are dead only to be surprise attacked by them when i focused on another fighter. that wont happen if i see numbers popping up and changing color.

If this was in the game it'd be a deal breaker for me on if I buy the game or not. I don't care how amazing this game is, having numbers pop up showing how much damage I do would ruin everything and I wouldn't even consider buying the game.

Bad idea. Immersion killer.

This.

I like floating damage in Borderlands, but it's more of a hack n slash, so it doesn't break immersion.

Not many ideas i just reallly disagree with but this is one of them ,as much as i love these games thats about as close to a deal breaker as one idea could get for me.

This.

In most games that have it, I don't mind it (they're generally more toward the "action/arcade" side of things).

And I don't really get this whole "immurshun" thing people keep throwing around.... based on the various vague non-definitions I keep seeing, I've never been immersed anyway.

But I still think floating damage numbers wouldn't fit in TES. :)

(You know what I'd love? A combat log of some kind, presumably hidden in the menus, so that I could look and see what actually I'm doing in combat and what techniques are effective. But not if it was intrusive in any way - not running in a window as part of the UI, but tucked away.)

Morrowind had that. . I think it got taken out with the dice roll being destroyed.

It would be a good console command. (sorry if you are on console mate) I find that ironic. No console commands on console.

Watching chunks off a health bar disappear is just as satisfying.

I personally used to loved the running smack with a hammer + connected with face = instant crazy ragdoll death!

Although I may not be as passionate with my opinion, I find this to be quite appropriate: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XkOPYHPj7Dk&NR=1

I also hate how so many games use bursts of light and showers of sparks every time you hit an enemy. Fine for maybe Zelda or something, but you still see it even in realistically styled games, and for mundane (non magical) attacks. Totally distracting and stupid, it's like just because that's how it was done in the past (either because you couldn't show blood or it was easier than creating separate "hit" animations) it's something that should still be included. The only possible reason I can imagine is nostalgia.

Try to mod it in if you want....It will be a deal breaker for me if that's in vanilla (or strawberry or chocolate or whatever)

Not only should we have floating numbers, we should have green, blue and purple-quality items. And instances. We're gonna need some instances.
