[WIPz / RELz] Flora/Landscape retexture

Post » Wed Mar 30, 2011 2:03 am

While i was playing Nehrim i noticed how most of the default flora textures is just different shades of mint green, and Qarl's textures didnt seem to change any of the leaves, bark or grass textures. So, i decieded to make my first Oblivion mod, focusing mostly on the flora.

Features (so far):

* New bark textures. Most trees has new bark textures, the bump mapping is now more pronounced as well
* New grass and ferns textures
* New leaves textures
* a few misc retextures of things i wasnt happy with or didnt look good with the new textures
* 1024x1024 or 1024x512 resolution

Very lovely. Are those ferns in the third picture retextured or is the difference I perceive just a trick of the light? In any case, quite nice.

yes, the ferns are much more noticeable now. the originals blend in too much with the grass (and all other similar colors). They're also bigger now.

I thought so. The ferns alone "sold" me. Gorgeous! :)

Very nice stuff. In fact, the only thing I didn't positively like was the landscape texture in the very last picture, and that's personal preference. Looking forward to the release :)

A very nice and obvious improvement. I'm especially pleased with what you have done with the rocks.

Oh great! One of the parts that I love most in Oblivion is flora and nature in general and I always love to see it improved. Just want to make you are aware that there is the work of mikal33 http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=8500 that changes the, well, trees and flora. You might see what http://www.tesnexus.com/modules/members/index.php?id=153868 and what you did and plan to do.

Vurt comes to oblivion?!?! Too cool.

One of the main reasons I cruise the morrowind forums is to see screeshots people do of his work.

dreamer2008: nice mod, i downloaded it and had a look, they've really good, i especially liked the tree fungus. His textures are quite different from mine, mine are darker than the defaults while his are quite bright and probably closer to how the originals look. I'll probably include some of his work in this mod since he seems to be ok with that as long as he's given credit. Thanks for the tip :)

psymon: i had to give it a go, now with Nehrim :)

Edit: a question for you people, who probably know Oblivion a lot better than me; is there a texture replacer for the blade textures (which i noticed are quite dull looking)? i didnt find anything, but im pretty sure there must be such a mod.

I am glad I could help :D . Be sure to look also at Improved Trees and Flora 2 that he made, and maybe improved doors and flora too, since he made some improvements for the flora there too.

About the sword texture replacer maybe http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=11451 is what you are looking for.

InsanitySorrow has released many vanilla armors/weapons retextures, like this: http://www.invision.tesalliance.org/forums/index.php?/files/file/458-improved-armoury-iron/

Vurt http://devnull.sweetdanger.net/obliviontextureoverhaul.html collection that many use as a starting point.

Many things about it have been updated with newer mods.

Classic Sword Replacer is one of the best for that, but there are a few others. Then fine and rust items too (linked in the above collection.

Excellent. I am not so worried about trees and rocks but I really want to see a mod that improves default grasses and grasslands. Some of the Oblivion grass is horrible, especially the dark green stuff. I would love it if you could make it more realistic. I am very happy to see you working with Oblivion as you have done some excellent texture improvements in Morrowind, no?

Why oh why did you leave us Vurt? :cold:

Looks very nice! :D

(I'd still love to see a Bitter Coast tree replacer)

This looks really good! I'm impressed that you have custom textures, not just a sharpened version of the original. Looks much much better! I'm one of those people who doesn't like QTP3 because it's too sharp. I'll be watching closely for updates :)
