Floundering FPS with formidable foes

Post » Wed Dec 14, 2011 3:18 am

My game suffers sharp slowdown that eventually crashes if I let it continue. In the world of Cyrodiil, things are perfect indoors and almost perfect outdoors. That is until I enter dungeons with certain enemies. Encountering Legendary Bosses such as Demon Hunter Cassandra sets the sands of my performance through the minute glass. Within that minute the escalating slideshow has begun. It takes two minutes of poisoning her and damaging her attributes to send her to her gods, but the fps is crippled from here on.

Perhaps its those meshes? I strip her of all armor and possesions, but the performance does not let up. The way to fix it is to run outside, save, exit Oblivion, and reload. Performance is redeemed and I'm free to explore with no worry until I happen upon another dungeon and ask "what could be in there?" This same problem is present around Knights of the Black Sun and any custom Dremora that wears custom armor, weapons and capes.

The Kvatch courtyard and the Kvatch Oblivion Citadel are masters of this curse.

The problem is identifying the root. Which do you believe could be a large chunk, if not THE source?

I had a game with just Warcry EV (latest version) a few weeks back and did notice slowdown issues when Warcy creatures were around. The characters you describe are, I think, from Race balancing and/or LAME.

I think it could be their AI packages, perhaps not terminating corretly But that is a theory as I do not really understand how all that works. A reload of the game I would expect to fix it if my theory is correct as those scripts would not be reloaded, I would think.

However, having encountered these characters in games without the issue you report, makes even my theory suspect. Is it possible that it could be a result of the bashed patch? Grasping at straws with that, but perhaps you use cbash instead of the python patch? I use the python patch.

Never used cbash before. I'll have to read up on it in the Wrye Bash manual before I commit to trying it. For some reason, the name makes it sound intimidating. Here is my load order.

Again, I am using OBGE v3 for the circle bokeh depth of field.

I reported my slowdown in the Dynamic Leveled List topic. But this was a mistake. The sluggish performance was due to the type of enemy, rather than the spawns. Even only Demon Hunter Cassandra will eat away at performance within 30 seconds.

OWC-ND, never really played it, just tried it for a few minutes. So those characters are from that mof then. I will not be of any help, but perhaps you can try in the OWC-ND thread, as someone may have had or has the same issue.

Disabling Vilja, OBGE, and Duke Patrick's mods delayed the sluggishness more and more, but eventually the sluggishness returned. I enabled Streamline and used it only for Streampuge, this allows a long time of playing against OWC ND enemies before the problems arise again. But when it does, only an exit and restart will solve it. I will post in their topic about this. Thank you all for your help.

I'm not saying this is the answer to your problem, but Duke Patrick's mods should all be loaded AFTER the bashed patch.

This has always been his recommendation for his mods, and I've found my game is smoother following his advice.
