Fluently learn the Dragon language?

Post » Thu Dec 08, 2011 9:01 am

Simple enough; the title says it all. Is there a way, aside from slaving over lists of known words on the game Wikis, to fluently learn to speak and write the Dragon language featured in Skyrim? An official learning guide would be pretty awesome.

I doubt you could learn to speak it fluently, because we don't know every single word, but you could probably learn it to a point. :P

You're better off learning Latin. Or Sanskrit. Or Hittite.

Use it among your friends. Foreign words come easy with much practical use.

It's really just an alphabet, so you'll be speaking like a dovah in no time.

Oh wow, I just suffered a lengthy moment of confusion because I forgot real life existed and thought you were talking about in-game. So I'm sitting here puzzled thinking "of course it would, the Thu'um are Draconic words, that's the whole point".

Yelling really loud at people in a foreign language gets the job done regardless of the language. Having it be draconic would only be a bonus.

Btw, we need to standerdize the name of the language. I've been calling it draconic, Daggerfall had it as dragonish (which sounds really dumb, imo), and we could of course go with Dovah.

Both Imperial Library and UESP lists it as "Draconic", which is the name Bethesda gave for it when the language was introduced in Game Informer. I consider that a fairly-official retconning of the name from Dragonish into Draconic.

I wholly support the notion that Bethesda should continue to release dictionaries of the language to expand our knowledge on what words correspond to what words in English.
