Flying in Skyrim Confirmed by the Trailer?

Post » Sat Sep 18, 2010 5:44 am

So.....

I keep hearing how the Skyrim gameplay trailer was completely in game, filmed on the 360. Im certainly not debating it. It is supposed to be 100 percent gameplay.

Can someone then explain what is going on in the beginning sequences of the trailer? It clearly shows a first person view high above the ground, soaring at a seemingly fast speed. Could this possibly be flying? To me it sounds ridiculous, but I dont see a lot of people discussing it. Just what are we looking at!?!?!

Check out the trailer here and tell me your thoughts.

We are looking at a dragon flying in 1st person perspective, you won't see this in game. Did you notice the part of the video where it does the free flying camera? Thats not in game.

While the trailer was filmed entirely in-game, I think we can safely assume that Bethesda did a few tricks with the camera in a few places that we won't see during normal gameplay for dramatic effect, and that bit with the camera is likely one of them. Basically we're seeing the player from the dragon's perspective.

Haha, as suspected. I was kind of hoping I had a chance to play AS the dragon.

The "mechanics" of the trailer were 100% gameplay.
The camera angles, however, were fabricated to give the trailer a..cinematic, if you will, feel to it. Just to make it pretty. A lot of those camera angles wont be doable by us, just Bethesda.

As said, that was from the dragons perspective. It's all in game footage on 360 hardware settings, but they've changed the camera view for cinematic effect. I think it's funny how we have two, almost identical, threads posted at the exact same time.

I think i heard in a game informer podcast that they will not have dragon riding in the game, that it would not make sense for these creatures that want to kill you and everything else to be ridable, somthing along those lines.

there was another one earlier, i dunno where it went.

HYPOTHESIS: Bethesda has implemented what i'll call a "clip capturing thing", ala Call of Duty or GTA4 or whatever (i don't play console games i don't know who did what first), allowing them to record game events and then replay them using cute cinematic angles and then slice them together for promotional purposes. maybe you'll be able to, too! maybe it's just part of the dev tools.

I'll bet some modders will get on that as soon as possible. Put a dragon in a friendly faction and somehow make it mountable. That would be awesome.

What about Oblivion, where it shows the camera flying towards the Imperial City? Surely that means that super-fast levitation was in the game.

It's 100% gameplay, but they can still move the camera around for cinematic effect.

I doubt the dramatic poses that Trailer Man struck were actual gameplay.

OKAY!!! There is NO dragon-riding in Skyrim.

What you are seeing there is the ground, looked at by a camera acting like it is a dragon flying.

The whole video is NOT gameplay. It is video taken while the game is running, so yes, basically gameplay. The 1st person view parts are gameplay. The part where the camera is flying is simply video taken while the game is running. You will NEVER ride a dragon in Skyrim. Unless you download a mod.

I actually thought that animation was for low fatigue (just my best guess).
