FNV DLC and Packs

Post » Thu Dec 15, 2011 6:47 pm

Got a quick question, when I started a new game should I turn off my packs and DLC's? Finish the original story and then turn on the DLC one by one? When I first played the game many months ago I noticed even at hardest setting the enemies are pretty darn easy to take down... BUT I had my item packs and DLC's turned on and I'm guessing because of that I've gotten items that I shouldn't have if I play it from vanilla... or does the item drop proportioned to my level and the area that I'm at so more powerful armor/weapon wouldn't have dropped anyway even with DLC??? Let me know :P

Courier's Stash was intended to be there from the beginning; it was supposed to be a bonus for player's who pre-ordered. So the beginning of the game WILL be less challenging with it.
GRA has little affect on the beginning because all the good weapons are too expensive.
All the others, there's simply no point in turning them off.

While the item packs definitely make the game easier (and so you'd likely want to turn them off), there's no good reason to disable the full-fledged DLC or Gun Runners' Arsenal. They don't affect item drops in the vanilla game world... in an especially meaningful way at least, and GRA in particular tries to balance out the weapon types that are less useful in the vanilla game.

The simple fact is New Vegas is kind've an easy game. If you want it harder, your best bet is to not use the starting item packs, and make up rules for yourself to make things harder. Things like ''I'll only use pistols'' or ''I'll only wear non-armor clothing'' or ''I won't use companions.''

Ty for the answers, appreciated it. TBH I think it was the companion that made it much easier when I played it before... it's like they got beefed up with the difficulty level but... I liked them, I want someone to give my extra armor to but mostly I'm tired of getting jumped from behind so I depend on my companion to watch my back xD. But thanks, I'm going to use the DLCs then

Could also be your stats. 1 Charisma point = 5% extra damage and DT for your companion, so if you've got, for example, Boone and 8 charisma, then he'll be hitting a good 70 damage per shot.

Note: don't even think about playing the DLCs after the main quest is done, since when you finish the main qest the game ends.
