FNVMasterUpdate / FNVMasterRestore

Post » Wed May 05, 2010 10:37 pm

For FO3 with patch 1.5 I had to release FO3MasterUpdate to workaround bugs in the game engine.

Are these bugs present FNV as well or have they been fixed? Does generally using masters instead of masters and plugins cause any new bugs to appear in FNV?

I need some feedback here to decided if the MasterUpdate and MasterRestore modes should be supported in FNVEdit.

Obviously, if it is not required to workaround bugs in the engine, I would very much prefer NOT to release a MasterUpdate which might then cause other bugs to show...

I think the white skin for esp-added NPCs bug is still in.

I think the white skin for esp-added NPCs bug is still in.

I was wondering about that, because recently I read this post in the FOOK comments:

Not sure if this was brought up already, but there apparently seems to be a problem with the head color refusing to match up with the body color (screenshot). This only seems to affect NPC's modified by this mod. I'm not sure what causes it (I don't know as much about Fallout modding as I'd like to ), but if I transform FOOK.esm (master file) into an .esp (plugin file), this doesn't seem to happen.

It seems that user solved the problem by turning the esm into an esp, which funny enough would suggest the problem is the other way around this time.

But I haven't actually verified this myself, so take that with a grain of salt.
What would be more interesting to know if the navmesh issue is still present in esps.

Overall it would be best if we start verifying if any such problems exist and bring them up with Obsidian while they're still releasing patches for the game, instead of having to use workarounds like MasterUpdating again.

A saving bug that crashes the game when you try and save seems to have appeared for some people, myself included. It seems to occur when you try and save after changing from one cell to another (confirmed by me and someone else). I have tested saving using only .esms, and using .esms and .esps, and I can move around fine and save fine only using .esms, but the instant I put 1 .esp in, I crash when I try and save after going to a different cell.

I am assuming this is similar to a bug that occurred with the 1.5 patch, so I assume that MasterUpdate is necessary until Obsidian try and fix it.

Does that happen to you with any esp? Because from my experience in FO3 that CTD bug tended to be caused by esps with CELL and WRLD data in it (and like you said it was fixed by flagging them as esms)

Yes, any .esp. Even with ones that don't have CELL and WRLD data.

And I have used the same .esps for about 20 hours and 20 levels now, with no real problems until I randomly found this.

Also, that thread I was tlaking about is here: http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1131510-crash-on-save/

The problem with head textures may have been caused by bLoadFaceGenHeadEGTFiles being set to 0 by default again.

I never used this in 3, likely won't use it in NV, so I voted no idea.

So far I see that most people still want it, and I have not seen a case yet in which it broke something.

Should I leave it in the manual or take it out? Right now its still in there, I'll leave it in unless instructed otherwise.
