FO1 & 2 on Macbook

Post » Mon Apr 19, 2010 7:12 am

I want to take my laptop away on holiday with me and I'd like to install Fallout 1 and 2 on it. I've heard of an open source app called wine which apparently makes windows games/programs work on other operating systems but I'm not having much luck with it.

Obviously, none of the .exe files from the game's disc work on my mac at all.

Is there anything out there that can make them work?

thanks in advance.

I have a MacBook Pro (santa rosa) and use a modified (commercial) version of wine called http://www.codeweavers.com/products/cxgames/ and when I tried both FO1 and FO2, the mouse pointer was extremely slow (to the point of it being unplayable). This is an emulation bug that to my knowledge has yet to be fixed.

But if that doesn't stop you from trying anyway, there's a free version on torrent sites released by Crossover from a marketing campaign last year, it's a lot easier to use than Wine. But if you're interested in trying that out, I'll have to leave the searching upon you.

Thank you. Does adjusting the mouse sensitivity make any difference to the game? I've never played the first two Fallout games so I'm not sure.

In all honesty, I'm not sure as I've never tried that. Maybe it will, but I seriously doubt.

On the subject I've checked out the crossover forums regarding Fallout, I've read that the version pruchased from GOG.com is stable albeit sometimes the mouse will act up when ran in windowed mode. According to the post, running in fullscreen mode is out of the question, although he ran it in Linux using Crossover for that OS (but I don't expect many differences in performance.)

I have my IMac dual bootable. Both FO1/2 (GoGversions) work flawlessly when running XP. I have a thingee in which I can run XP in a window, but I haven't tried that. I am playing FO1` on my Vista box...I was just curious if it would run on the Mac.
