FO2: Solving the Gecko power plant problem

Post » Fri May 27, 2011 6:57 pm

Okay, I have the necessary tool to fix it. Unfortunately, I can't operate either the robot or manually install it. It seems this can't be solved, and I'd really like to get along with the MQ...

Um... problem. I can't use the computer, so i can't fix the robot. I don't use speech or repair, so the robot is my only choice...and that's impossible =/ what now? Level up my speech or repair and come back? Or just forget about doing the MQ? =(

I think there may be a few other ways around it, but... (MAJOR SPOILER)

Spoiler
You don't acctually need to do that quest to continue the main questline. While it becomes a bit more difficult to do if you don't do the Vault City quests, you can still find Vault 13 by heading to the New California Republic. There are several ways to find Vault 15 in NCR, and finding Vault 15 will lead you to Vault 13. The most straightforward way is to go talk to Tandi and agree to deal with the Vault 15 situation for her.

Edit: By other ways around it, I mean other ways to deal with the Gecko reactor. You'd be surpised at how many solutions there are for that quest.

In this quest there are no skill checks in Speech, Science or Repair. Well, only if you talk to Fearguss to convince him to install the part. But other than that you can do anything you'd like in this quest regardless of skill-level. You can run in and just use the Hy-Mag on the red valve (no repair skill involved, at least never in my game) but you will get damaged by the radiation in the reactor. The safe way is to use the computer but you don't need any science skill for that. Just figure out the path the robot needs to take and you're homefree.

Thats not even remotely useful though is it? He didnt ask how to do the main quest, he asked for help resolving the power plant issues.

I'd say it's pretty useful, seeing as he thinks you can't complete the MQ without doing the power plant.
