I have decided to open this topic as I recently upgraded my system from an AMD dual core 64 5000+ 2.61GHz, Running Windows XP 32bit, with 3GB ram & 2x Nvidia 8600 GT cards, with which I had hardly any issues when playing FO3 with only the DLCs installed.
My new computer is an Intel Quad Core i7 2.93GHz, Running Windows 7 64bit, with 6GB ram & 1 Geforce GTS 240 1GB card.
Upon running FO3 with all DLC's & quite a few mods added, I found it to crash very often especially when passing through a door or using fast travel.
Over the weekend I transferred the same MODs & settings onto my old AMD system including the same saved games, I loaded a save game & followed the exact route I had taken when playing the same save on the Intel computer on which I had over 6 crashes, playing the same route on the AMD I had no crashes at all, though I did get about four crashes over the weekend & played the game for around 18 hours.
I did however get more game freezes on the AMD where the game would freeze from anywhere between 1 & 10 secs, This set me thinking were there any differences in the way the CPU's handle these freezes.
I don't think it's worth starting a similar topic on New Vegas as I found that the game crashes on both system (unmodded, which was why I upgraded my system), I think if they had just stuck to creating a basic game as with FO3 instead of incorperating MODs from FO3 the game would have been much more stable, as if you find a MOD is causing problems you can uninstall it, if it's incorperated into the game you can't.

The game doesnt like to run on computers with CPUs with more then two logical/physical CPU threads. The freezing is fixed for most people by doing a .ini file modification.


I dont have too many problems with the game crashing on my machine, although the load order of the mods may create an issue.

Played FO3 for well over 45 mins not a single crash :flamethrower:

Would this tip make New Vegas more stable? or something similar.

This tip does nothing for New Vegas and only serves for FO3.

Itried ther same game on my old AD 5000+, again over the weekend again & only had 1 crash over 15 hours of game play, the only differences being lower graphics settings & the ini file was not altered.

Though your tip has reduced the crashes, the game is still crashing far more that my old machine, & as you say you have little problem playing on your AMD quad core, is it a dual core vs quad core problem or an AMD vs Intel problem.

How do you add spoilers to replies, so I can include my dxdiag & load order lists without having to copy paste

It appears FOOK2 was causing a lot of the crash problems, I've just spent a couple of hours playing a new setup without FOOK installed & with quite a few more mods installed, not had one single crash even without a FO3edit patch.
