FO3 GOTY Crashes on new game (yes, this thread again)

CURRENT STATUS: STILL LOOKING FOR HELP

Hello

I bought the Fallout 3 GOTY version during the halloween sale and have been eager to test it. However, to my disappointment, I experience crashes every time I try to create a new game, either about 20 seconds into the first intro movie. I have now started to skip over it (pressing ESC) and it brings me to the birth scene. After being able to select my gender it crashes a few seconds later.

I have searched the web for solutions and have done these steps:
  • Changed the line in the .ini file in the FO folder (C:\Users\Patu\Documents\My Games\Fallout3/FALLOUT.ini) and added the other line
  • Downloaded the d3d9.dll file but deleted it after seeing that it does not work
  • Ran the game in windowed mode
  • Changed the amount of cores from 4 to 2 via Windows Task Manager
  • Ran in administrator mode
I'm saddened to see that none of those fixes seem to solve the problem. I don't know what to do next.

Do you have any mods running? Is so, one of them will most likely be the problem. Also download the unofficial patches, they help in wonders.

Would you mind linking me to one of those UO patches, I have no idea where to find the right ones

EDIT: I'm downloading the Unofficial Fallout 3 Patch, I haven't installed it yet though http://fallout3.nexusmods.com/mods/3808#content

Another advice is install it in your User folder, Fallout 3, NV, Oblivion and Morrowind had issues for most when they installed it in the programs folder, but they went away when they did that. And make your anti-virus off at that time, or get the AV to bypass FO3.

I am not sure how to install the game speficically to the programs folder, and since I bought it via steam I think it has to go to the /commons folder. I have oblivion and skyrim but I haven't experienced this problem with either one of them. And my AV is not the root cause of this problem.

Still looking for help.
