FO3 Master Update Question

Post » Tue May 17, 2011 11:38 am

I've been reading how to create a merged patch using FO3Edit. But I have a questions about one thing I've read. I've read that if you wish to add a mod or change something your need to use Fallout3MasterRestore to undo things before making any changes? Why is that? Why can't you just add any new mods/make any changes, etc and just run through the master update process again? Why do you need to undo what you did previously using Fallout3MasterRestore? Thanks.

A merged patch and a masterupdate are different things. A masterupdate makes all esps act like esms, so if you want to change your load order or add mods or anything else you need to run the masterrestore first. I have desktop shortcuts for update and restore, and each process takes about 10 seconds.

If you want a more technical explanation, download the FO3Edit user guide http://www.fallout3nexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=8629

The Geck won't allow you to edit a plugin with the master bit set, so you need the masterrestore and masterupdate programs when you are developing a mod or just want to make changes to an esp. I usually run the masterupdate once after setting up a new mod list for a new game, then load the mod I am working on and un-toggle the master bit, and leave it that way.
