FO3 won't run - Suddenly it requires a CD

Post » Mon Aug 18, 2014 2:32 pm

I decided to start another game of FO3 today and found that I could not get the game to launch. I have the retail version of the game, not the STEAM version so I'm not sure what's up here. Every time I try to launch the game, whether it's through Fallout Mod Manager OR the Fallout3.exe file I get a message telling me No disc inserted. I don't know what change has occured but I can't get the game or the game launcher to launch. As it stands, my FO3 CD is packed away in a box that I've not yet had the time to unpack (moved not to long ago). How can I go about fixing this irritation without having to dig through a bunch of boxes to find it? Oddly enough, Fallout: New Vegas works just fine.

System Specs:

Win 7 Prof x64

Intel i7

8 GB DDR3

ASUSTeK P7P55D-E

GeForce GT 630 2GB

600GB WD HD

1TB Seagate HD

Go to where the game is installed and click on the Fallout3.exe

Likely the shortcut is pointing to the falloutlauncher.exe which is needs the disk to launch since you have extra options to make changes to the game such as changing the video card and more video card options as well.
