Fo4 makes sense; Fo3 perhaps not. I think you really need to bury the hatchet and stop acting bewildered that they're going to continue using that naming notation. It's semantics.
It make perfect sense since Fo3 or Fo4 wouldnt had happen w/o Bethesda so be happy =P
I wonder if Duke Nukem/Duke Nukem 2 fans complained as much when it went from a 2D platform game to 3D ...
There's a wide gulf between the era of C64/spreadsheets and 1997-98 when RPG mechanics actually appeared in RPGs.
You mean like ... Pre-Fallout 3 games and Fallout 3+ games? Same thing, different games with different intents.
Semantics
Burying a hole for myself? You are so full of it anyone can understand it by reading the posts. Again you evade to answer to what I said and try to change the subject, saying that these mechanics suddenly became obsolete, not mentioning them and explaining why they are obsolete (maybe it's "obsolete" because you just don't like them?). Let me repeat it for a third time.
You said that you don't have enough time and not interested in more complex mechanics/development. I have little time in my life too. but I don't ask for watered down games because I enjoy spending a portion of that time exploring these mechanics. So yea, not enough time is a poor excuse as another poster said above.
Keep on keeping on. Seriously, I think you just want to convince me to slavishly agree with you. If so, you;re going about it the wrong way.
" I enjoy spending a portion of that time exploring these mechanics. "
There's a game, crowd funded, called Wasteland 2. Maybe that's more your style.
Very mature of a 40s year old man, the "go play another game" card. Thanks but I inform myself about new releases through gamespot, ign etc - very kind of you though to try and find a game that I may like.
I don't expect you to agree with me. You have your preferences - you made clear you don't want complex games and I have mine.
Are you this stupid trying to compare a human being with a song or a piece of art?, please just leave this topic and dont post more BS the dude is right on what is saying and you are just wrong.
Another one of these... jesus.
/facepalm
I agree that the new dialogue is lack luster, it just feels bland and the path you take is one directional and obvious.
Then dont [censored] play videogames and take care of yor grandchildren but stop hurting the game industry with your insulting terrible opinions.
Yeah, there is the fans and of course there is the fan*boys.
The first ones can criticize and give hard feedback to the developers because they actually care about the game and the second one are passive agressive snowfalkes that only think about themselves and their big egos prevent them from accepting facts and reality, they prefer to delude themselves thinking everything they touch or they do is the best thing possible instead of seeing how things are bad and how can they improve.
1) The fallout series has never been a survival game, neither in mechanics or theme. From the get go, it's about trying to move on after the apocalypse and rebuild - post post-apocalypse if you will.
2) Even if it were the themes of past games, it's been 200 years since the Great War! Just how long does mankind need to despare?
3) We lost item degradation and gained an insane and robust item mod/crafting system. If you think that's casualization, you're gonna have a bad time.
Actually, it is mature. You see, if a game series changes in a way I don't like it ... I don't buy it and I don't hang around on its forums calling other people "casuals" and belittling their posts. In fact I don't even go to the game's website anymore. What do I do? I find a different game to play, I "go play another game" that more fits my needs. That's maturity.
All I am suggesting is, that if a game no longer fits your needs, then perhaps it is time to find a game that does.
Nice
I would have made it on purpose if I knew the joke was gonna be that good!
(btw corrected the post, sorry for that!)
Anyway, on the matter at hand...
"Advancement" in a game franchise has to mean replacing bad or obsolete mechanics (or graphics and etc) for new/improved versions.
The dialog and storytelling in FO4 seems to be a step back (would rather they stood in the same place, but nope, they really went back to a primitive model).
Item degrading was bad in original FO3 (happened too fast), it got alright when modders fixed it to a more 'realistic' rate.
Item degrading is/was a necessary mechanic since it controls what type of gear the character can constantly use. Doesn't matter having the best armor/weapon if you can't keep it in tip-top shape.
Scrapping stuff and looking for parts, as well as possess/acquire the knowledge of how to maintain/repair stuff, is part of the "survival package" that comprises the fallout setting.
A fallout without survival elements (or in general) mechanics that you need to "cope with or struggle with", is not really a fallout IMO.
It seems some people here wanna only have the combat as a challenge, and having to learn how to deal with the world all around become an insignificant task. I feel ahasmed for these people but cant control their opinions and taste.
Thread shall remain closed, since some of you are having problems remaining polite and mature.
People are allowed to have differing opinions, without attacking each other about it. Post constructively, or not at all.
