FO4SE (Fallout 4 Script Extender) and Consoles

Post » Wed Dec 02, 2015 6:53 am

We (Pc users) all know that FO4SE is going to happen. There's no way that Bethesda has accounted for every scripting function we could possibly need and put it in FO4. It will be a staple for many pc users that will welcome it like an old friend to make some mods possible.

The question I pos here and hope a representative of Bethesda will chime in on, is that: How will it be supported (if at all) by the consoles?

The team behind Script Extender has been a trusted member of the community since the days of Morrowind. How will Microsoft and Sony possibly support their efforts and possibly allow a 3rd party software to function on their platform?

I believe this to be a very important question that has yet to be answered.

I don't think Fallout 4 Script Extender (FO4SE) will ever be available on the PlayStation 4 (PS4) and Xbox One.

Wait and see...when mods first land on Xbox One and PS4 we'll have our answer.....I seriously doubt they'll say anything here.

I agree with Ballowers,

infact, I will go one step farther and say most mods won't work on consoles, and the ones that do will be some of the more basic variety..

I mean, just looking at certain mods on the nexus, consoles wouldn't be able to use them because they clearly violate the EULA, or would put to much stress on the console

Pete Hines basically said they don't even know how everything to do with mods will work yet - my paraphrase. They've focused on the game first, now they'll iron it out and figure it all out.

Seriously doubt something as complex as FOSE can work on consoles. Same for ENBs.

Personally I think console mods are gonna be severely restricted to maybe weapon skin changes, cheats or minor additions.

Do I doubt SKSE team could port it to consoles? No.

Do I doubt that Sony and Microsoft will allow for this? Yes.

Do I figure Beth has the last call? Yes. I'm curious, if they port any script extender to consoles, how Beth is going to convince Microsoft and Sony to allow for this. This could serve as example for other games, and how Sony/Microsoft deals with modding games on their platforms in future.

Another question that just dawned on me. Is the Script Extender team even willing to try and support consoles?

If they have members in their team that use consoles, and if their numbers is high enough...yes, sure, why not?

This is why I have a thread about the graphics. Being an Xbox one user I know I mods will be few and far between on consoles. They will probably have to be vetted and approved ect. I hope to see visual mods but doubt it on xbox.

I wish I still played games on the PC but it is wayyy to expensive to constantly upgrade my machine plus I like playing on a giant tv from the couch :).

This myth some how still exists?

A good gaming PC does not cost $2,000 dollars (USD). You can purchase a good gaming PC for $800 dollars (USD) and you can also connect your PC to your TV these days.

Script extender will not be allowed but Bethesda could possibly add some of the features of a script extender in an official patch if it is needed and it does not hurt the performance of the game and if it passes the certification when the game gets patched.

Even if FOSE is doable, how many console owners would willingly try something that has the potential to brick their consoles?

That said I hope modding will entice more people to consider getting PCs if they find themselves interested in how the mods work. PCs are easier to develop mods on anyway.

I doubt this will happen. Skse is still in development. I dont think Bethesda will kerp patching functions when they are off to new projects.

Ballowers is correct, and you don't need to "constantly upgrade", I got my old machine in 2010, and it served me fine with newer games up until around june of this year when a pipe broke pretty much wrecking the thing.. only upgrades i had put in the thing was a second HDD and some higher speed RAM

Still... I wonder how mods can be delivered to consoles. Probably some kind of service like Steam workshop where it can be curated? Or via files like fomod?

Lol im not a console gamer, The game isn't even officially out and yet I'm already interested in how the backend infrastructure is gonna work. Guess PC gaming will do that to you.

The obvious answer would be for Bethesda to integrate the script extender into their patch structure, so it's no longer an external program.

We'll see if they actually do that or not - I'm guessing 'not'.

Yeah, I doubt they would ever forward such a move. Importing script functions from any FOSE into patches/DLC's is likely however. They did so before.

I wouldn't put my expectations for using Mods on consoles to high. I could even imagine Sony/Microsoft would restrict it, so you're allowed for using only certain mods?

Given that original skyim passed Console Certification on PlayStation. . .that bar is non existent.

this is going to be a given.. there are alot of mods that make a game require more resources (usually graphical enhancements) which could cause major issues on consoles, and than we have all those "pervy mods" that clearly violate Sony/Micro's policies and EULA's

Yeah, it's going to be immensly complicated. I wonder why Beth/Zeni allowed for such a move. Nothing good can come of it I deem. I just hope this won't backslash at the PC modding/mod using community.

people have been asking for it since Morrowind, so maybe they are just giving in..

but some kind of controversy will very likely come from it.. unless they investigate every single database change before making it available, it would only become a waiting game till some kid downloads a mod that the author hid some tiny tidbit of 18+ content, and an over protective mother walks in and we know where it goes from there..

I understand console players are happy they are finally going to have SOME mods available, but from a Business standpoint i would say its more of a risk than the payout.. granted, I am sure Beth did their own risk-payoff anolysis, so lets hope it doesn't cause to many issues..

I think it will just like the paid mod issue back in April. I have a bad feeling it might be even worse depending on what mods are available on the PC and what is then available on the console and the bickering in the different camps. I really hope that it does not become that way but I have little faith in human behavior.

-----

I doubt I will use any mods on the Xbox One unless it is something that improves the performance or minor changes that has no baring on performance like changing weapon damage or something like that.

I don't think it would work on consoles to be honest. However you never know so the only thing I can say is wait and see.
