Little time at work, but thought I'd throw this out as it's been bothering me recently... I've been playing Morrowind again, recently, since it went on sale on STEAM. With the new graphics mods, it's quite a fun game but I'm beginning to remember one aspect of the game that caused me problems before. It's not a problem with the game per se, but the WAY I play it.
That is, there are SO many quests that I would be on a mission for the Thieves Guild and see someone and take a mission from them since it is likely just around the corner and easy to do... but while knocking out that simple diversionary mission, I run into someone ELSE who has a mission for me. I finally get around to doing the thieves guild mission but then I find another NPC that offers me a simple little job.
Bottom line is I end up with a huge list of quests that I'm moving through at varying paces; some I have not yet made the first "contact point" for the mission (like, finding the dungeon I need to clear)... others I've made some progress toward (talked to an NPC and picked up an item but not yet delivered it)... and others I've "finished" but not yet turned in for completion.
In Morrowind, there's no sparkly trail leading you to a convenient waypoint on your map, so remembering the details of the various missions can be tricky, even with the help of the Journal.
So I was wondering if many other people find themselves FOCUS-ing on a particular mission until it's complete... or if, like me, they cannot resist picking up every little mission they find along the way.... and I wonder how ESO will make that easier/harder that older TES games have made it.
Like, sometimes you may find a clue in the wilds that may lead you to a quest... but it doesn't actually put a quest in your journal... just suggests you may find some hermit at this location... if you don't GO to that location RIGHT NOW or write down a reminder, you may forget to pursue that hinted-at mission.
The beauty of a game where you just organically find missions while exploring is that it's not a central hub of quests where you pick up ten quests and go out and knock them out and come back to the hub.... but the DANGER of the organically-acquired exploration-based missions is that it's REAL easy while exploring, or while DOING a mission you discovered while exploring, to end up with a massive chain of quests.
Guess I may need to break out the old three ring binders and get adept at writing notes / reminders...
Of course one danger that I have in the back of my mind is that there may be "hidden" missions that chain off other events... like, IF you have talked to a widow about recovering her husband's sword and you then go into a dungeon and find it, that starts off a chain of missions... but if you don't happen to talk to the widow and stumble across the sword in the dungeon, could you pick up the mission chain THERE or would it just be random loot you sell off and then miss out on the chain?
