We made #116, and will move up again tomorrow. We're still climbing to the top 100, but we've dropped to 16 active folders so it's going slower than it was.

Good work there everyone on the team list,quite many people over time,and a certain someone have put in 60 million and 80 000 wu′s,congratulations to the team and unle fuzzy :foodndrink:
looks like it is several even numbers coming up,those is always fun :D

now I have to get my behind moving and rebuild my main rig,move stuff around and eventually get another one up and running,easiest had been to just move the entire mb with cpu,fan,ram and out,in with the new,maybe switch a psu or two,still it will take a while to get everything set up again when I first begin ,ah well until later :wave:

:brokencomputer: To celebrate my milestones, I crashed 2 machines and lost about 50K PPD for a day and a half. I just got one back up, and I'll see what I can do with the other tomorrow (I should have been in bed 2 hours ago). The problem was a new GTS450 I just got to replace one that was DOA. The new one lasted about 45 minutes, then took down the system. I didn't know the cause because the thing would not even try to start, so I had nothing to troubleshoot. I ended up changing the PSU, then the motherboard/cpu/RAM. All setups included both gpus, which I didn't think about until today. Now the box has it's old guts back in it, plus one gpu from the other dead machine. It got accidentaly unplugged. When I plugged it back in, it wouldn't start. :swear: :banghead:

Oh, well. At least I got this one back for about 25K PPD. :shrug:

ouch, no fun.

btw got my main up,and my old mb+cpu,it is clean though,have to set everything up from scratch again.Also meaning to hook up an amd630,didn′t worked,tried everything and in the end it was error on one of the cat-5 cables to the switch :banghead:
now if I just could avoid 450-pointers on gpu2,67** on smp and no crash and burn otherwise.

So I want to contribute the odd WU from time to time. I figure 1 or 2 CPU WUs /week shouldn't get my roommates hackles up over the hydro bill.

I simply can't stand having this 4.2GHz OC'd I7 950 and not folding with it, from time to time.

I'd like to do the bigadv but have a question. (Folding a normal WU ATM.) I've seen it stated that to get the bonuses for the bigadv WUs I have to fold 10 normal WUs.

I just got a new passkey, as I have no clue what my old one was. Does that mean I have to do those 10 normal WUs? Or because I have folded for the team before can I just jump straight in?

Here is my config for this WU. (Project 6056)

[settings]
username=(TES)_wolfpup
team=52286
passkey=XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX
asknet=no
machineid=1
bigpackets=big
extra_parms=-verbosity 9 -smp

[http]
active=no
host=localhost
port=8080
usereg=no

[clienttype]
memory=512
type=3

[core]
addr=

As I understand it, when doing bigadv WUs you need to use the -smp -bigadv -verbosity 9 flags while leaving "advance method" on "no" and bigpackets on big vs normal, is that correct? (I'm under the impression I need to allow all 6GB of RAM as well for best performance with bigadv.)

P.S.

Damn, I just lost 5% of the work it did after adding the -oneunit I forgot to add earlier and restarting the client. <_<

To get any bonus, including for the regular SMP, you need to complete 10 WUs with the passkey currently entered in the client. It might be worth hunting for your old one to save this time and not have to wait for the bonus points. I kept the email, and copied it to a text file on each computer. I don't want to lose that number!

The easy way to do limited folding is to leave your client on -oneunit. You can then run 1 every few days, and add or remove the -bigadv flag as needed.

At 4.2, a regular SMP, depending on Project, should take 6-12 hours. A bigadv will take about 2 days and give you around 80K+ points, again depending on Project. A 2684 takes about 3 1/2 days on my 930@4.1. The 6900 is much faster.

Advanced methods can be yes or no. I don't think any -bigadv are still on advmethods, so all of them are available regardless of setting. Using no is sometimes handy to avoid a new project that still has problems or gives lower points. Since -bigadv is a subset of SMP, you need to keep -smp and add -bigadv. I use -smp 7 on the 930 and 950, and -smp 10 on the 980X. All the boxes have full gpu slots, and the 400-series nVidia demand more core time than the older cards, though still not as much as the ATi cards.

The original specs given for -bigadv recommended .5 GB per core. An i7 would like to see 4 GB. Most of mine run around 3.5 used (980X a bit higher). Sometimes something else locks up memory and it goes to 5+. That's my signal to reboot and clean out the system. The 950 has 6 GB, but the 930 and 980X have 12 GB.

Glad to see you coming back, despite the roomies. :goodjob:

Cool, thanks fuzzy.

I'll scour my emails for the passkey as I know it's no longer on this computer anywhere.

By my calculations, I should be able to finish normal WU's ever 4-5ish hours or so. I'm up to 37% now, and I had to redo that lost 5%. It's been running for 30 minutes and gone from 15% to 37%.

P.S.

Just checked my emails and no go. :(

I'm on project 6701 and each 1% takes up to 30 minutes vs 3 minutes like 6056 did. (I had 2 6056 WUs + this 6701.)

So much for my 4-5hrs. :whistling:

30 minutes sounds a tad much :? sure you don′t do a 6900 or some such ? Have 34:32 tpf on that my self.
btw welcome back to the fold :)

btw my net was gone recently,the isp messed up for the whole area,including me,and I don′t use mobile net for f@h,pay for traffic amount there :(

have a question my self, as stated above tpf around 34:30 on p6900 and now p2685 tpf 36:38 with slightly changed oc is any good ?
new stuff for me.

Something isn't right. The slowest time I have a record of is a Q6600@3.5 and it does 6701 with 13:17 frame time (6056 was 5:57). The two i7s that have run it are under 9 minutes. You do have HT turned on, don't you?

is at 34:57 now only cpu,almost 2 minutes improvement over a -oneunit test with gpu2 (gts250).Think that has to do-cpu only that is.

My times are -smp 7 for the 930 and 950, and -smp 10 for the 980X.

The 930 has 2x GTX460, the 950 has 2x GTX460 and a GTS450, while the 980X has 4x GTS450. That's over 90K PPD on the GPUs, and I spent the money so I fold the cards. The gain to -bigadv using all the cores is less then 90K, so I'll stick with the mixed clients.

Welcome to the team. :cookie:

Which client did you install- console or Systray?

I'l start by assuming the Systray classic CPU client. You can see the status by hovering over the icon (0/5000 for example). Don't use the viewer to see the pretty picture. It eats so much cpu time that the folding slows almost to a dead stop.

Do a search for "unitinfo.txt". It should be in a normally hidden folder. Make a note of where that folder is. If you open that file, it will tell you the project you are working on, when it was downloaded, when the deadline is, and your current progress (%).

You can also install a 3rd party program to monitor the client. The current favorite is HFM.net. When you set it up to monitor, you'll need to point it to that hidden folder.

http://code.google.com/p/hfm-net/

If you find you enjoy this, let us know what other hardware you have and we'd be happy to help you set it all up to fold. :tongue:

Dragon32 first pointed towards the gpu-tracker program here some pages back,but here is a fresh link:

setup:

a lot of people is very happy with it,works for all different folding out there,classic,smp,big,gpu.
a lot easier to get started with apparently,don′t use it my self but it is generally praised for what it is whorth.

We are still at #113. We might take another step by the next update. It looks like 4-5 steps up before the next team catches us. We dropped to 16 active, so we slowed slightly. My numbers since last night looks like one of the machines crashed, so that's my next stop when I finish here. One of these days I'll have to get setup to operate all the machines over the network.
