follower concepts.

Ok this topic is more or less a ramble topic, as bethesda legally can not use any community ideas directly though they can use them for inspiration. yeah posting ideas to a big company is useless as they can't legally use that idea, but they can use something similar to it or referencing it.

so what is the point of this topic, well lets see how outlandish of a follower we can come up with while remaining true to the fallout lore.

here is my follower concept.

Fange [prounced fang-E sort of like thingy]

basic info: Fange is a intelligent deathclaw, though he doesn't know how he became intelligent.

complex info: Fange is a deathclaw exposed to a good dose of FEV and has an extremely high intelligence rating even among the rare smart deathclaws with the brain capacity of the average advlt instead of a child, though he is intelligent he is not as strong as a normal death claw and is only the height of a baby deathclaw (about 4 feet tall) to compensate for this, Fange uses stealth boys and has made a make shift "claw enhancement" which is just a bunch of sharp bits of metal coated in a plasma like substance(aka a poison).

how you hire: Fange is ran into via a random event the player will see the outline of a small death claw fade in as his stealth boy fails, after which he will instantly tell teh lone survivor not to shoot him, if you don't shoot he will thank you and ask if you have a spare stealth boy, you can either give him one or ask why he needs it, to which he will respond that it is so he can hide from the ones who are hunting him, the lone survivor then can give him one or ask who is hunting him, to which he will say a group of raiders who claim to have "made" him and want to end him. the player can either help him (tell him they will take care of the raiders or give a few stealth boys) or take him out themselves.

Incounters (random)

1. stealth boy fail: the one detailed above if not a follower the others will follow.

2a: dead deathclaw: happens if not given a stealth boy, is found dead with a few raiders around him one in the middle of looting.

2b: need more: uncloaks near the player and asks for more stealth boys pays 400 caps per one given (can happen many times)

3: reward: if player destroys the raiders who are hunting him, he will aproach the player uncloaked though with a robe and give them 10,000 caps and 3 stealth boys stating it was his stash, the player can "hire" him at this point to which he will agree as a form of thank you, if you don't he will be found in some small settlement working as a guard, though he creeps some of the locals out.

as a follower: Fange is a melee only follower who can tank high amounts of damage though will not engage deathclaws or power armed targets instead opting to run or avoid that combat as he can not win.

backstory quest: over time the player can get bits of his story and eventually go on a quest to find how the hell he came to be. (spoiler: FEV, and a dead raider that was ODed on mentats)

special notes: Fange has high perception, intelligence, and luck. With this he also has high stealth and unarmed combat(if still in the game) being the only creature follower that can use stealth boys, he is also able to pick locks if needed.

special quirks: will eat any meats handed to him committing that if you didn't want it eaten you shouldn't have given it to him, he also will drink any dirty water given to him as that is what he is use to, other then that he has a high carrying capacity allowing for about 400 LB of stuff to be carried by him, and he will not carry chems of any kind except stim packs, and med x.

minor quirk idea: will eat any raider killed after the player loots, leaving only a few gibs behind if left to his own devices.

I though this was a speculation thread on what sort of followers we were likely to see.

I can guarantee one will be a Ghoul

I would cry tears of joy for a Deathclaw follower. Bethesda have yet to broach the topic of intelligent Deathclaws.

Id like a wisecracking thief/pickpocket type of sidekick, who specializes in silent melee/thrown weapons.
Since we can point to things and have our dog get them now, I envision being able to send them to steal something for you, pickpocket keys from a guard, or sneak in a main entry and unlock a door on the side.
Special skills focusing mostly on perception, agility and luck.

Cannibalclub: Id love to be able to use Dogmeat to reverse pickpocket a distant target with a frag mine or a frag grenade!

ooh.... that would be nice.

lol, at the dogmeat pickpocket idea, think that would be to complex for a dog, a good stealth follower though.

Palyer: hey go stick a grenade in that guys pants

follower: Ok

few moments later NPC goes boom follower says "well didn't have a grenade so used a mine and a mininuke."

I'd like a follower that compliments each joinable faction, giving insight on a personal level of the institute, railroad, minutemen, ect. One of the areas that fallout new vegas screwed up was not giving you anyone from the legion to personalize it.

I always wanted one of the ghost people as a follower

maybe one that managed not to get all weird and mindless, but still had that creepy vibe, the scary shamble and breathing noises, etc

I'd like to see a follower similar to Pino, the little android girl from the Ergo Proxy anime series.

http://download.minitokyo.net/Ergo.Proxy.508153.jpg

She's be mostly useless, couldn't fight, always wandering off and finding trouble, but, would come with a perk that finds things and places that would otherwise be impossible to "find" or obtain without her, a little like the little girl from Mothership Zeta that could crawl through small places unavailable to the character to open doors and such, but, as a follower, it'd be whole new locations, and also the small stuff like rare items.

:)

Earlier I had an idea for a trained circus Yao Guai that you would find in a side show outside of some town. The quest to get him/her would result in you receiving a key to its cage in exchange for some favor and once released it kills all its former captors but loves you!

Ergo Proxy is a good anime. If you guys haven't read the Blame! manga you should.

Anyway, I'd like to have an upgradeable Protectron follower that constantly questioned reality and his own place in it. Maybe it was the handiwork of a fine robotics engineer who was confined to his house (for whatever reason) and decided to make explorers out of parts. Since he could never see the wasteland he let his "metal sons" do it for him.

I'd like to have a smooth talkin' personality available. Someone to do the talking to random npc's and handle the buying and selling of goods. I understand why my character needs to be front and center for quest dialoge. However my play style is typically focused on stealth supported by small guns, demolitions, repair, and lockpicking/science. I rarely put points into the charisma skills.

Say I teach him how to use stealth boys and when the fighting starts he runs n hides. While I explore a location he waits around. When I go to town to sell stuff he does all the talking for a 5-10% share of whatever we get. When trying to convince Mary "The Murder Machine" to come work at one of my settlements as a guard he does the talkin' and I pay him a fee if he succeeds. Maybe after he's made a few thousand caps he straight up quits because travelling with me is dangerous. Maybe I meet him again later as he's getting tossed out of a bar. He's broke and asks to tag along again.

I know some would not like this and Beth probly would not do this because the pc is always supposed to be the star of the show. Yet imo the world is already full of mooks who make stuff die. How about a follower or two that can address holes in character design? Just a thought.
