Follower cursor appears at enchanting tables and workbenchs

Post » Wed Jun 29, 2016 2:51 pm

My wife and I have encountered a glitch in which the follower cursor appears after we use any enchanting table, armorer's workbench, or grindstone.

I suspected a mod was causing this, and uninstalled all mods and reinstalled the Skyrim Legendary edition to ensure everything is clean.

The only additional items I installed were the Unofficial High Res patch and the Unofficial Legendary edition patch.

The follower cursor still appears.

I uninstalled the Legendary edition patch, and installed the DLC-specific patches.

The follower cursor still appears.

Situation:

Enchant or improve one item: the follower cursor rarely appears when exiting.

Enchant or improve two items: the follower cursor appears about 50% of the time.

Enchant or improve three items: the follower cursor appears about 80% of the time.

Enchant or improve four or more items: guaranteed.

Testing method 1:

Lydia is in Breezehome; "I no longer need your services."

Use any enchanting table, grindstone, or workbench to enchant or improve four or more items.

The follower cursor appears.

Testing method 2:

Lydia is following me.

Use any enchanting table, grindstone, or workbench to enchant or improve four or more items.

The follower cursor appears.

I cannot open any doors, pick up any items, loot any bodies, pick any locks, etc. even though the prompt to do so appears.

I can talk to NPCs, buy and sell items, and can direct Lydia to wait, sit down, attack a creature or NPC, pick up an item,

and leave my services.

None of this leaves the follower command mode.

I've applied every suggested fix that was suggested by searching "Follower Cursor."

Fast travel does not work.

Loading an earlier save does not work, regardless of whether I do something different after loading the save and then do the enchanting or improving, or go straight to enchanting or improving.

Validating the Steam cache does not work.

Using the console commands to reset the AI, reset the character, etc. does not work.

Coc'ing to various locations does not work.

The only work-around I have is to enchant or improve one item, exit, quicksave/hardsave, and go back in to enchant or improve the next item. That way, I've lost only one round of enchanting/improving - but that is not a solution nor a fix.

This is very frustrating, particularly when one has created a whole new set of armor, weapons, rings, and pendants and goes to enchant/improve them all in one go.

Even more so when one has a time-limited potion of enchantment.

Any ideas?

Maybe a quest? What happens when you uncheck all quests?

With all mods disabled, does this happen in a new game? Disabling all mods includes Renaming the scripts and interfaces folders as well as disabling any skse mods. THe problem probably isnt a texture or mesh or soundm od problem.

No mods at all.

I uninstalled Skyrim completely; unsubscribed all mods, deleted all skyrim directories, and then reinstalled Skyrim Legendary and the patches; nothing else.

Pure vanilla install.

New game; the glitch first occurred at level 25, and is happening more frequently as I level up.

What does the quest marker point to? Can you upload an affected save? http://www.tinyupload.com/

Hi Jasper;

I'd cleared all quest markers.

Give me a few days; my wife and I are on nearly identical machines; she's running Win10 64, I reverted to Win7 64 a couple of months back.

We have the same video card: GTX 460 1 Gbyte (yeah, a 4 or 6 Gbyte card is on our wish list, and that'll be a long ways out.)

Two weeks ago, we updated the driver.

On a hunch, I rolled back my driver late afternoon yesterday.

She still has the bug; I don't.

I've no idea why the driver might (if at all) be causing this; however, we've both had glitches after updating the driver in other applications and games (Photoshop, Civ V), etc; the glitches in my other software and games went away; her's didn't. However, it doesn't actually surprise me, as we've had to roll back video drivers in the past.

She rolled back her driver - and her non-Skyrim glitches went away.

I'm now back to suspecting a mod, and did a clean re-install of Skyrim yesterday afternoon, tes5edited the core files, and started a new game last night, and am now adding and thoroughly testing one mod at a time.

Considering how many posts there are out on the net asking about solutions for the same problem, I'll keep you all posted.

Thus far, all the following have passed with no problems:

SKSE/SkyUI (won't play without it; playing Skyrim over the last few days without it was, well, painful)

SPERG

Amazing Race Tweaks (all races; these are the only ones we subscribe to on Steam; the rest are Nexus/NMM.

Skyrim Immersive Creatures

Scholar's Library

Blacksmith's Basemant

A Matter of Time

When Vampires Attack

Run for your lives

Inigo 2.3 (Best follower mod ever imNsho; won't play without him.)

Inigo MCM

So far, so good; and yeah, I got very little sleep last night ;)

Next on the list for testing: Immersive Patrols.

Oh OK. You are talking about the quest marker thing on the compass that leads you to the next objective right?
