Follower Duo (Serena) lore help needed

Hi,

I've noticed that there aren't many good follower mods available for Skyrim. During last week I've been working on a follower mod, which will give the player new follower, a Breton mage Serena. I want her to be completely lore-friendly, therefore, I'm asking here for help.

Because the acquisition of Serena should be rather rewarding for the player, a complex quest-line is in place. I want her to be some kind of magus universalis - which means she can specialize in any school of magic. I don't want her to be overpowered, though, so the magic school she'll use in next combat must be specified BEFORE the combat occurs. This will be done through dialogue.

My question is - is it even possible for a Breton mage to specialize in every school of magic (in lore) ? I was thinking about making her a former Psijic member, exiled from the order, but that would be more complex and hard for me, because I'm no lore specialist.

Her story is that 200 years ago, she was tasked by the Daedric Prince of Nightmares Vaermina to return her artificat, the Vaermina's orb. She managed to acquire it from a powerful warlock, but instead of returning it to Vaermina, she decided to use it for her own experiments.

Vaermina punished Serena by throwing her into it's own sphere of Oblivion (well, as I said, I'm no lore specialist), where she was constantly hunted by nightmares for over 200 years. In order to save Serena and get her as PC's follower, the PC must free her from her Nightmares in Vaermina's realm.

Any help would be appreciated. I'm fairly experienced modder, although this will be my first mod for Skyrim. So CK related help is not needed, only the lore one. I need to back this story up, or maybe improve it, so it'll be completely lore friendly. I don't know if this story is even possible, never heard about mage which could master all schools of magic, and I play TES since Morrowind. But that was a long time ago.

I think it would be of more benefit to make her an Expert in all magic schools as opposed to a master. Bretons are just as capable of learning all the magics as any other race. In fact you could have a Master Khajiit Mage or even a Master Orc Mage as well. The only things I see wrong with your mod in terms of the lore might be the age of the Breton, though granted we do not know their exact lifespans, and the Psijiic Order thing which you already said you are tossing out.

She could easily have been a master wizard in high demand in High Rocks Feudal kingdoms and in the process developed many talents and pissed off many enemies. She might have had some talent with her magic for spying as High Rock is infamous for its spying network. One of her enemies could have been a follower of Vaermina blah blah blah. Of course you could come up with unlimited variations on such a story. The lore is pretty flexible in most cases. However As I said, my main concern is the age of the Breton.

Thanks for your reply,

Well, I was thinking that when she was in Vaermina's realm, she stopped aging because even her physical body was in that realm. But I agree with you that if I make a Breton of age 200 and more - say 230 - she will look horrible, and that is not my intention. It wouldn't be probably even possible, as you stated.

My main problem is the quest-line. She won't be very skilled in one-handed combat and so on, only in arcane arts and maybe alchemy and enchanting. Saving her from Vaermina looked like great chance to earn her gratitude, because someone skilled as her won't follow you on a good word. I can make her spy on Dragonborn (like that Khajiit in Riften, if I am not mistaken), maybe attack the Dragonborn and once defeated, join the forces but really, I don't know.

I can also make a classic TES-like intro, when the PC meets Serena in prison (Castle Dour would be best)

But again, freeing her from prison doesn't seem like enough for following PC along his adventures to the end...
