Follower woes.

Post » Wed Mar 02, 2016 1:02 pm

Using Vorstag. Love this guy, but so far he'll only equip hats, gloves, and weapons I give him.

No, it's not the usual issue. He comes with scaled armor and USKP/USLEEP changes his class to give him light rather than heavy proficiency, but he won't wear *anything* in the chest slot, and he's getting wrecked.

I've tried light, I've tried heavy. He won't replace his boots or body, and I don't really want to fiddle with consoles every blinking time :(

Help?

You took his armor away? I have had followers not want to put on better stuff if they had there original things. Follower mod like AFT, UFO, EFF?? I know AFT you nned to enable outfit management or the follower will sometimes only "store" things.... I usually have problems with them running around naked until an attack occurs... unless I "say" something.

Only mods I run that affect followers outside USLEEP is Convenient Horses.

The rest are texture/effects mods. Climates of Tamriel type stuff.

I have Immersive Armors installed, but he's not even accepting vanilla armors.

He wears jewelry, weapons, gloves and hat just fine.

He will not replace his boots or chest armor.

Not running a follower mod means I can't take his starter stuff without console commands and it may still reset after a load screen from what I understand.

I don't pickpocket, so I don't have those perks. Not that I'm sure if it works with the unofficial patch installed.

hmmm so basically a "vanilla" game on pc?? You get a "trade" option, but he won't wear.... That does sound like a glitch of some kind. I don't know... I've never had that problem on PC, just 360... and I think I ended up reloading.

Not entirely vanilla, but I don't use follower overhauls.

I could try disabling mods and see if that fixes things on a throwaway save, but uninstalling CH midgame is such a pain...

Skyrim legendary edition.

USLEEP

SkyUI

Convenient Horses

HD textures (official)

Xenius Character Enhancement (mostly face/texture fixes)

CoverKhajiits (Khajiit head textures)

Climates of Tamriel (weather/lighting)

Immersive NPCs in the dark

Proper Aiming(archery aim fix)

Immersive Armors

Nothing that I can think of that would affect him.

USLEEP changed his combat class to Barbarian(2h, Light Armor) from 1h Warrior (heavy, block), but generally followers will put on higher armor rating gear. He won't put on Dwarven, and that armor rating is way higher than scale, which is what he starts with.

And it's only boots and chest.

He wears hats just fine. Prefers light helmets over heavy, I can't get him to wear heavy if there's light in his inventory.

He wears gloves just fine. He even wore the IA witchplate I threw on him to carry for me(but not the boots or helmet).

It's to the point I'm tempted to replace him, because if he won't wear what I want him to, he's going to get trucked.

But if it affects him, what about others? I could hire someone else, or try to gear Lydia (I hate Lydia), but still.

Also reloading isn't an option. I've put almost 50 hours in since hiring him. I'm mid 20s now and he's starting to get trucked(I play Master).

That's the problem it, might effect anyone else. Hard save, Hire some else, give them better than they have equipment and see if they ...equip it all, if they do than it's just a bug with him. IF they won't equip the same stuff... then it's an issue with the files. You can either keep the save or go back.

I have never had him not equip parts of armor he's been given. He's always been a favorite vanilla follower, on 360...... I can't say about PC cause I had AFT on my 1st play through...

If he's perked in Light, then the higher-base Heavy may not be "better" as the Light perk will be taken into consideration. When you look at armor stats, they're shown as if the player, not the follower, would be wearing the item.

Scaled is almost equal to Dwarven without the perks (base 32 versus 34), so it could easily turn out better for him to keep what he has. This gets more complex when a follower has one of the matching perks, so I don't think they're normally given those. The match perks require a helmet, too, which is another reason most NPC's don't get them.

Scaled with 1 level of Agile Defender = 32 * 1.2 = 38.4 so it beats 34 for Dwarven unperked.

Enchantments on armor don't appear to be considered. So he won't replace scaled without enchantment by scaled with if you try and improve that way.

Classes only give proficiency I thought. Didn't think NPCs like that got perks.

I'll have to look at the list again.

Highest level vanilla light armor I've found is Elven, and he won't wear it. Same with the Mercenary/shaman armor I've found(IA). Having perks, the numbers are higher for me anyway but I still can tell if something is better than 32 if I want to math.

I'll look at his NPC page but I don't think he's got perks.

The UESP page doesn't list any, but it also does say he has none. I'd need to look in the CK for that. I know you can give NPC's perks, because most of the magic-users get some to support their spells. E.g. Alteration's Magic Resistance perks is often found on NPC's, and the Augmented perks in Destruction, too.

I don't remember what the devs gave to melee NPC's but some things like Power Bash are likely. I've had my player character beheaded befoe now, so the perks for that must be in use, too.

However, most NPC's are spawned from leveled lists with those, and I'm unsure if followers (who are expected to level with the player) are given perks as they progress in the skill trees.

I'll take a look at him in the creation kit because I know USLEEP changed his NPC class.

I never had a problem with this in my other playthroughs, and the only difference between them and now is Immersive Armors. I always use him, he's the best looking male follower(imo) that doesn't require Companions questline.

So I'm looking at him in the Creation Kit.

I can't figure out(because I'm a noob) how to get the unofficial patch to load as it's not an .esm file, but if all the patch did was change him from CombatWarrior1H to CombatBarbarian, all that does is change his skill levels in different stats.

http://i.imgur.com/M1Bi54j.jpg

Side by side of the two class stats. Yes, the image is stupid huge, paint did a stupid and I'm too lazy to fix it. I run dual monitors and my printscreen captures are wide...

http://i.imgur.com/QnaHVBN.jpg

My load order.

So unless there's something else up here I'm not finding it.

I use Immersive Armors and haven't noticed an issue... but I downloaded AFT the same day. I would look on the mod page and see if anyone else has had a problem with that. Could be that someone else did and reported the fix, ya never know.

Well he equipped a pair of glass boots I handed him, but I haven't gotten any actual armor that isn't heavy that would be "better" than scaled yet.

I could theoretically console myself a glass chest and see what he thinks of it, but this is really odd.

I still need to test and see if it's a mod issue, but I don't think I'll have time to do it until tomorrow. I want to make sure it's not a mod issue before I go pester mod makers.

I didn't nessesarily mean to pester Hothtrooper, so much as looking in the posts and seeing if anyone else had had the same problem.

I found a "fix" for the problem... but save first!! remove all the items that you have given him, because you will loose them if you don't. open console with the ~ key then type in removeallitems then press enter You should then be able to get him to wear any armor that you want. The person that got the advice said it worked to get Lydia to wear light armor...which unless it's better than her steel default armor she won't. The one downside is that he will loose the infinite arrows and you will have to keep giving him some.

I believe Vorstag has no helmet or gauntlets... so he will equip any you give him... everything else has to be better than his default things.

I’ve gotten Vorstag to equip an improved Mercenary chest piece from Immersive Armors recently. The character isn’t a smith and used a potion when she improved the armor. I can check the armor stats in game if you like, but it will take a while because when she dismissed him he took his armor with him. It sounds to me like Vorstag is just waiting for light armor that is higher than his default scaled.

He supposedly does have gauntlets.

It's just annoying. I finally did a character with enchanting (such an annoyance to level) and I wanted to put some resist gear on him.

I'll figure it out.

huh...never noticed and he always takes the ones I give him.... Sorry.. I wish I could help more, but my knowledge of how some mod's change the vanilla game in unexpected ways is limited. I've had no problems with Immersive Armors... but as I said I use AFT and that could be why. I know if I wanted to I could change his perk's with AFT... but I generally don't mess with any of that....except adding/ teaching Spells.

He doesn't have perks, just skill levels in certain skills.

Apparently there are some followers with perms, mostly casters, but not him.

Ah well.

That's kinda what I mean... with AFT you can add skills etc... so for instance I usually give Marcurio a boost in Destruction and Conjuration.. also light armor, then take away chain-lightning, but give him Snowstorm and Firestorm and a couple of other spells from Mods.. I don't mind him having Lightning bolt...but not chain-lightning. The man loves chain-lighting when he get's high enough in lvl... ouchie!! Plus of course with most follower mods, the follower can lvl well past what vanilla allows for.

I don't know if this helps, but Illia won't equip anything I give her unless there is a helmet involved. I gave her a fully customized suit of Blades armor that regen'd magicka and she ignored it. I handed her a blades helmet and she put the whole thing on. Ah. My little mage tank.

I don't know if you are running into the same issue or not. But that's what I found.

Vorstag's class was changed via USLEEP as you've noted to Barbarian. That class has Light Armor as a primary skill and Heavy Armor as an ignored skill meaning no skill points are ever added to that skill so it will never increase beyond it's starting value. His starting LA is 40 and his starting HA is 15, which is what he'll have when you meet him at his minimum level of 10. He maxes out at level 40, where he'll have max level in LA of 100 and still the starting value of 15 in HA. Ok, those are your baseline numbers assuming USLEEP is the only mod you have that edits his character record.

He starts equipped with a Scaled Horn Outfit that includes and Scaled Horn Cuirass with a an armor rating of 32. Again assuming no modded armors from other mods you are using throwing off the power curve for armor protection, the only armors he will ever equip would be a Glass, Stalhrim, or Dragonscale cuirass as only those have a base light armor value rating higher than his default outfit equipment. Base armor rating is important as followers do not account for Smithing improvements when taking into account whether or not an item is "better" for them to wear.

If you still are having issues with him and armor, you might also want to load your full mod list into TES5Edit and see if there are any mod conflicts you aren't aware of when it comes to Vorstag and his skills and perks, some mod may have edited him without your knowledge and is throwing off the tests. Check his skill values in the console in game as well just to make sure nothing is affecting him like a curse or shout -> click on him, then do: getavinfo lightarmor

You know I hate to suggest it, but getting a "follower" mod like UFO, EFF or AFT ( there are some other's but I am not familiar with them ) might also be a good idea. Truthfully I wouldn't suggest it at all, except that they do make you like your followers more. Seriously, the only thing that ever bothers me about them is that when the "outfit management" is inabled in AFT, the characters tend to go nvde for a second or so when you go through a gate or door. IF my body meshes had undergarments they would not be nvde, but the ones I use don't....except one. I mean seriously, I can "dismiss, but hang out here" so that I am not fighting them to use the crafting tool's. If your spouse if a follower you can manage their "adventuring outfit...aka armor", city outfit ( nice dress ) and home outfit.. comfy clothing.

There is also a "get behind me" if they are blocking a hallway... which is a really good thing!

I'd seriously recommend getting AFT. It's literally a 1 minute fix after installing it ... dismiss follower, hire follower, tweak options->gear->enable outfit management... then tweak options->gear->show default outfit. NOW you can take all their hidden stuff away and they WILL wear whatever you give them, every time.

You don't even have to take all the stuff away... just make sure if you use the:

Standard ( everyday adventuring outfit ).... [X} helmets only in battle

City.... Any walled city... give them a weapon also or they will beat on vamp's with their fists or use magic if they have

Home.... items worn "in the home"...which depending on the mod can be a porch or rooftop.

anywho... I never took his "default" armor away, just gave him what I wanted...
