im hoping we can have more than one at a time. more options on who we can have with us would be nice id like to have cosworth and dogmeat but then if they have an eyebot that will make it hard choice iv also seen in the E3 footage we have a super mutant as a companion i think as 111 is standing on what looks like a window washing lift with him and people are throwing a hand grenade at them what companions types would people like to see and who would they pear up eg: super mutant and ghoul as companion

It'd be nice to have two human(oid) followers at once, but more than that is too many.

One thing I hope Beth learns from NV more than anything else is making the companions interesting and dynamic characters.

And since they already are aping Mass Effect-style player dialogue, they should take the best part of that and have companions chime in with their own thoughts during conversations.

German article from my thread.

SPIEGEL ONLINE: What is the role of the dog and the household robot that were seen in the game presentation?

Howard: In the game there are a number of companions, the dog and the robot are two of them. You can help the player and fight with him, but never more than one at a time. But you can switch between the companions.

Sorry mate.

Maybe he meant one non-humanoid companion at a time, like in New Vegas and 3. You could have Dogmeat plus any other companion in 3, and you could have ED-E or Rex plus any humanoid companion in New Vegas. It seems like it would be a huge and unnecessary step backwards to limit you to one companion at a time. Hopefully he just meant that you can't have both Codsworth and Dogmeat with you at the same time.

Did anyone notice that the dog can be named and clothed? For instance, it start's out as "Dog" in VATS and when directly looking at it, but later in the E3 Fight footage, his name suddenly turns into "Dogmeat". maybe the developers changed it later on, maybe not, what is definite is that the first time you see the Dog, he has no collar or ownership marking what so ever. Then as you are seen flying in the vertibird, the dog is seen wearing a red scarf (or is it a safety harness? and if so why doesnt the character have one?) I'll look it over again. replies are welcome! :D

I heard that you will meet a person from FO3 who willtell you that the dog is named dogmeat. After this his name changes.

I just hope that followers aren't "required", like I seem to recall reading that the Scrounger perk is somehow tied to the dog? I prefer to sneak everywhere and snipe foes from a distance before they even see me, and having a giant clanking octo-butler or Cujo running around with me could be problematic. Especially if their AI is as horrible as follower AI traditionally is.

Mods will change this for those who want to roll with a small army, but I am happy with one follower at a time. I would also be okay with one plus the dog like NV did with ED-E.

Scrounger applied to the player regardless of the follower, I believe.

It might work as it did in Skyrim where it was possible to have a quest specific character tag along with you and your follower. Serana ended up doing a tour in Solstheim with Ms. Cragjumper and the Dovakhin. Even had three going while Frea was involved.
