FONV and DirectX 11

Post » Tue Nov 23, 2010 4:56 am

Two years after unrevealing of the tessellation features of DirectX 11 it would sure be sweet to have more games around that actually use any.

Maybe it's possible as an add on with driver level multicore support.

What do you think?

I think the industry is waiting for there to be more people who actually have systems that can use it.

There's still a goodly number of people out there with Win XP and video cards that can't run DX11.

There are still bugs present that date back to Oblivion, so not a chance in hell I'd say.

It's not gonna happen because 2/3 of the platforms can't use DX11. Besides, even if there was a DX11 patch for the PC it wouldn't really make much difference on a dated engine like the Fallout version of Gamebryo.

To be honest there isn't a lot of incentive for developers to go beyond DX9 at this point. DX10 adds some neat volumetric effects. DX11 adds tessellation, but I imagine a low percentage of Bethesda's customers own hardware that can take advantage of it and provide good overall performance.

My 8800GS wouldn't care one bit about DX11, therefore neither do I.

Doubt it, considering the engine is from 2006.
