Developers lately have been hiding PC footage of there games (except DICE <3 those guys). I have many idea's why

1: they dont want console players to think they are getting an inferior product, which if a developer fully utilizes high end pc hardware...well there becomes obvious differences between games.

2: they dont want pc players to know how much effort they didnt put into the PC version.

The main reasons for Skyrim would probably also be:

- The game is being developed on 360 stuff.

- Full PC conversion and all that it implies is done at the very end or near it.

No, the reason why PC footage is always late seen if at all before the game comes out is because the PC unique features and high res textures are always the LAST thing to go in. They are cosmetic and optional assets and thus they go in last. The PC features are icing on the cake and icing always goes on the cake last and thus is why the PC version graphics aren't complete until the end.

It's quite funny. In buildup for the unveiling of the Skyrim trailer, I re-watched the previous Elder Scrolls trailers. One thing that stuck out to me is that Morrowind's trailer had a disclaimer at the end, reading: all footage from the PC version. Of course, the Xbox version of Morrowind was quite messy: much like things like SNES Doom, it was a very blatant port. One that screamed, "you are playing an inferior console port on inferior hardware, shame on you". I suppose with the differences in console/PC game visuals being a bit more subtle nowadays, it's best not to market the best-looking version lest those with consoles feel cheated.

That, or all of the machines at Bethesda's office are too weak to run it well. :P

Everyone acts like the screenshots are from xbox. But can anyone confirm this? I can't find any official confirmation on which system(s) the shots and videos are from? Can somebody post an official link?

Yes, it has been tweeted and posted many times that all the media that they have shown for Skyrim, including the gameplay trailer are from the 360. This seems to be a problem at this moment where so many people think it's the PC version and even when I and others continually point it out people ignore us. Not saying you are ignoring us, just meaning there are alot of people that do. Not to mention the lack of AA and low res textures gave it away also.

I don't have twitter. But there is nothing on the official site,

I say better concern for youe ring and gpu than skyrims graphics. TES graphics always were ahead of it's time.

Yea but this is still on the same generation of console so it can't be that far of a difference from Oblivion.

Good reasons, but why do developers insist on using the Xbox360 as a Standard to Demo or Preview new games. The fact of the matter is, every game is first created on a multitude of PC's at a company (engine, game code, 3d modelling, level design, artwork, etc). So what if the console version is inferior, it's always gonna be, untill they start making them upgradable.

It's like, "Hey, I just made a BADASS game using all the latest tech, but im gonna show you how it runs and looks in DOS". thats what im getting at. People chose to be inferior when they chose to make a game console their platform of choice.

Because everybody know that a pc render would use GTX 580 in SLI on a pc with an i7 and 8GB ram, I would do that.
Rendering in a Xbox show you have something who works on a xbox.

360 is the lowest common denominator plus if they showed off PC tech like i said console players may become jelly. Crytek did it with crysis 2, they pretty much hid away pc footage/screens deep within vault, until someone leaked a beta with basic dx9 and you had to mod in some effects even THAT looked far better than the 360 demo but yet why did they not show it off?

The only thing that concerns me with the graphics on the pc is not low textures or water we can mod those, it's DX11 support. From what we have heard/seen i really doubt the need for anyone to upgrade there rig for this game. There are other games coming out that one will have to upgrade for, crysis 2, bf3, shogun 2, witcher 2 ect.

It is much better than Oblivion on the console, but the PC version isn't restricted by the console, thus it can be lightyears ahead of the PC version of Oblivion.

Oblivion released in 2006, crysis in 2007, so late in 2011 5 years after Of course I expect, if not better at least similar graphics to 2007 crysis for skyrim and pc version.
If not hi res tex will be possible from moders but then a GTX680 kepler card will needed.

Unless you base your assumptions on what bethesda has STATED OFFICIALLY that all versions will look pretty much the same. I like going by official statements.

Im just utterly disgustted at the use of the Xbox360 to demo/showcase new games, on top of that the Xbox360 is the most pirated, out of the console war. Why developers keep insisting on using it as a standard is beyond me. Maybe Microsoft is lining peoples pockets I guess. Maybe a Developer should comment on this constant exclusive use of the Xbox360 as a standard for showing off new games. I'd really like to hear it.

John Carmack better not play RAGE on a 360 at a launch event. All im saying.

For multiplatform games the similarity in architecture between PC and 360 makes it a good baseline - it's set hardware, so you know what it's running on, and it's likely to be more finished than the comparable PS3 codebase, at least for most developers not coming from a purely sony background. Of course, there may be money coming from microsoft in addition, I wouldn't put much past them, but it's really not a bad choice for a baseline machine.

I'm also pretty sure John Carmack can run what he likes on what he likes, the guy is like the second coming of programming jesus.

You always design a multiplatform game based on what you're lowest common denominator is able to do. Otherwise people are going to expect what they can never have. I kind of find it refreshing they used the xbox even though I plan to buy it on PC. I know my game will look just as good, if not better when I pick it up. I like that.

Seriously the lack of anti-aliasing is the only thing that bugs me. I like to crank that up in my games.
