Football Thread

Liverpool V United today.

I'm pretty nervous which is a good sign because it means I think we actually have a chance :P Torres is showing signs of being close to his best and Gerrard has played better over the last 2 games. I'm worried about our defence but I reckon Carra will hammer Rooney before Vidic gets sent off for fouling Torres after he's beaten him for the 10th time and Gerrard will score from the resulting penalty.

Easy!

Edit: Football thread! That should make it easier to find this in the search :P

I actually think Rooney will make Carragher look sort of lame and frail, I'm hopeful that he won't but I think it's a very possible outcome...

If 'Pool and Blackburn can pull nothing short of a miracle between them then we may well clock out at the top of the table this weekend!

Arggh lost 2-1.

Pretty disappointed on 2 accounts. Firstly was our poor link up play between midfield and attack and the second was because of the (probably predictably :P) ref.

We're still missing Alonso and what we did well in the last 2 games was allow our 2nd center midfielder to push on. Here they stood back too much and the only option between Masch and Lucas - Gerrard and Torres was the wings and Maxi and Kuyt are hardly top quality wingers (great cross by Kuyt for Torres' goal though). Also when we did make second half chances Torres fluffed up twice, which is due to the fact the pitch was pretty crappy (bobbly and slippy).

Now the ref. The pen decision for United was a shocker. It's a foul and a booking but Masch clearly fouled Valencia about 5-10 yards outside the box. Valencia carried on playing until he flung himself down in the box. It's a shocking decision. If someone was slide tackled on the half line and then continued to stumble on into the box before flinging themselves down would it be a penalty? No! So it shouldn't have been a pen here either. Shocking decision. Then we had Neville trying to karate kick Maxi in the face without being penalised and then Fletcher kicked Kuyt over and tried to start on him after Kuyt did the terrible thing of fairly winning the ball of off him. That one should've been a red card in my opinion - violent conduct and stuff and nothing happened.

I groaned when I saw Howard Webb walk out today. It turned out by worries were right :/

Also Carra was fine against Rooney. He did bugger all today.

I actually thought Rooney played quite well, holding up the ball and letting the midfielders surge forwards and support him. Countless times I watched him recieve the ball with his back to goal and I don't really remember him losing out on too many, he's just so solid. He did a much better all round job than Torres. Torres scored a brilliant header, went invisible, fluffled a few chances and then the final whistle went. I wanted to see him terrorise Vidic (He's such a [censored]) but it never really happened to the extent I was expecting :( .

Vermaelen was also penalised and sent off for something that wasn't really a penalty yesterday, Reina's save was almost identical to Almunias except he shoved it straight back down Rooney's throat whereas Al got it round the post, it was a little unfortunate.

I'm going to leave before the Utd fans arrive, not top of the table anymore :meh:

Rangers 1 - 0 St. Mirren

Good on the team to go on and win from 2 men down. First trophy of the season in the bag.

I remember when Georgie Boy first took charge of us if you had problems sleeping then all you had to do was go to Elland Road boy was it boring to start with. Then just as he started to get things right he buggered off back to London :shocking:

Chelsea have beaten Villa 7-1 today as well. Obviously Liverpool haven't played otherwise we'd have broken the goal fest with a lame 0-0 draw / 0-1 defeat.

Getting very nervous now, I'm really looking forward to the game but I'm scurred. The hairs on my neck are standing on end, it's gonna be good for the neutrals at least.

On the bright side we have pretty much a full strength team out (Except RvP) http://www.arsenal.com/news/news-archive/team-news-fabregas-and-gallas-both-start

Heres hoping Almunia doesn't play like a [censored], again.

Yeah, not hugely though, I only go to big games and I don;t really follow it that much. Didn't go to the Norwich/Leeds game either, though I did hear a really good version of 'Always Look on the Bright Side of Life' from our fans...
