Football Thread

THIS HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH AMERICAN-STYLED FOOTBALL

Just a friendly reminder - we're not interested in having discussions about what the game "should" be called, be it "soccer" or "football" or whatever, so please don't bring that kind of nonsensical arguments into here. We've gone though 14 threads of having at least one argument-per-thread, and frankly the mods are sick of having to moderate and clean up the place for flaming/trolling. So please, just leave those discussions to PMs if you really feel the need to express your opinion on it.
Anyone who ignores this warning will be reported and subsequently dealt with by the mods.

I could maybe understand sacking Mark Hughes for a top manager with PL experience (Like Mourinho) but Mancini? I'm not so sure...

I guess the new owners are just really impatient, and Hughes just didn't 'deliver' what they wanted to see. Probably will spend a few milion on new players as well when the transfer window opens again. Silly team.

On another footie-related note; I played some indoor footie (futsal) today, first time since my stupid knee injury last summer. Made a few goals as usual, but I did think I was missing some lungs at the end of the first.. minute.

It was nice to see United finally having a defence made up of actual defenders. There is a rumour that they are in the race to sign Chiellini from Juventus, which is a bit silly. They already have two excellent centre backs and a boatload of solid backups, it's just incredibly unfortunate that they were all injured at once.

Fabregas, what a magical 26 minutes he had, top of his game at the minute!!

Those were two magnificent goals he scored.

Delayed response from the Liverpool v Villa game:

Torres is a god. I propose Liverpool stop buying players and instead invest all money into human cloning research so we can get more of him.

I think Torres is by far the best striker in the game these days. When he's fully fit he's pretty much impossible to stop.

Liverpool FC End of season dinner will take place next week.
Menu is confirmed as follows.
Starter sour graqes
Main course Plaice(proberly sixth possibly seventh)
Pudding select from Kuyt.Ngog,Lucas,Vorinon or Degan.
Drinks will be available but theres stictly no doubles, trebles, and no carling premier. There will be a section of wines served by some fat spanish bloke with a dodgy beard.
Please note that dress code is strictly "late 80s" to celebrate our last league title. ALL drinks will be served in plastic glasses as cups are not on the agenda again this season.
For entertainment. Rafa Benitez will be doing his party trick of making ?200 million disappear into thin air with bugger all to show for it>

Fair play Leeds.

Now, if you'll excuse me, I am going to leave before the gloating really begins.

Good day.

I can't really laugh as Liverpool only drew with Reading but at least we didn't get knocked out by a team 2 leagues below us at home :D

Epic win!

Edit: Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson: "I must admit, I didn't expect that performance. If you don't start and the other team does, you're always up against it. Leeds had a far bigger appetite than us for the game. You need a a bit of luck and they got it, but they deserved it because they played really well. The referee gave five minutes of injury time and that's an insult to the game, to the players out there."
