Football Thread - World Cup Special II

Post » Sat May 28, 2011 12:11 am

The Post is not one of America's pillars of journalistic integrity. It is, in fact, a rag. It would be like Americans judging you Brits on things the Sun prints (actually, on second thought, that is quite appropriate, as I believe they are both owned by the same person).

Oh good. I'm pretty sure The Sun wouldn't go as far as to say we'd won if we only managed a draw.

The game later should be interesting. Germany aren't strong on paper (but we all know that Germans always do better than they should) and Oz aren't a bad team. Probably a similar standard to USA really.

The last two matches were a yawnfest for me. Well, maybe not Serbia v Ghana, it was okay. The ball off the post towards the end, holy hell man I heard the post rattle over the sound of the vuvuzelas. Those Ghana boys have power.

Dear lord.

I'd be more shocked if it wasnt for the spelling bee thread. Every one gets a trophy!

Commentators didn't really mention it but I'd have expected Schwarzer to do better, he's had such a cracking club season. Good game though, chances at either end.

EDIT: The Germans are looking impressive, the best of the "big" sides who have played so far.

Great goal. Bad goalkeeping. And defending.

Australia have no chance whatsoever in this match.

Another good goal. Ozil still pulling all the strings from midfield, Australia aren't looking too clever.

Am I the only one who finds myself really really really wanting to go to this World Cup? I mean I'd love to go to any but this one just seems... inviting.

Well, total German domination. How many goals do we expect before the game is over?

Nice save by the Aussie btw!

I predicted 4-1, but it'd be more like 4-0.

nah, i think more towards 4-1, australia has a habit of pulling goals out of nowhere.

also, australia hasnt put Harry Kewell on the field yet.

Indeed. I was thinking today would be a crap day (and it started that way with Algeria and Slovenia) but Germany were excellent. Their team looked a bit weak to me when I was looking at their squad the other day, but they have proven otherwise.
