Just heard the results, I hate a draw. England should have won.

Silly Green. Since all the good teams are underachieving so far, you shall all bow to me and my countrymen when we demolish Denmark tomorrow. I expect graqes, palm leaves and the whole shebang.

congratulations USA, you've come a long way.

Britain... :stare:

Anyway, the Netherlands won't make it, because there's an energy company offering a year of free electricity to people who change their electrical provider, if Holland wins the cup.
Hence, we won't win.

Still, great personal victory for the US, and it would be great to see them have a good run.

edited for misspelling Britain

Sorry I'm late to the party, but can I just take this moment to say:

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!

Watched the first half with my dad, we were in stitches when USA scored. We had the sound off though, so didn't get the commentary. Bloody vuvuzelas, glad they're thinking about banning them.

Come on Algeria!

Ridiculous. Completely undeserved win for Slovenia. What a horrible side to watch. Sending off was two pretty harsh yellow cards. This match has me pretty irritated now <_<

Naturally I'm biased, but I wouldn't say the victory is completly undeserved. It might be true that for most of the match we were evenly matched, but in the crucial moment Slovenia took advantage of Algeria's mistakes and that's got to be worth something.

And I think the two yellow cards weren't that harsh. Maybe the first one was, i don't know (I'm no expert). But the second one was well deserved. I mean he clearly played with his hand. Not a very smart thing to do, especially if you already got a yellow card in the match. :P

Green is going to be reminded of that for his entire career now. Poor chap.

The US team are playing dreadfully, I don't think they deserve a win today, which is saying something as i'm rooting for them 'cos Irish people never want to see England win. :P

My entire family is Irish, alot of them moved to England for work in the 60's-70's and ended up staying here. They would father see the country who took them in win than their opponent, most of them actively support England unless Ireland is playing.

You all should be glad there's only a passing interest (at best) in soccer in the US. If the public really latched onto it like American Football or Baseball the teams would have all the money they'd need to scoop up the best players in the world (and you'd be left with the dregs).

This is the most face palm worthy post in the history of forums :stare:

In international football, you cant buy players, they have to have been born in the home country (not sure about citizenship though.) which is probably why USA didnt get into it as heavily a long time before, because they couldnt simply buy all the worlds best players and call it a team. Real Madrid tried that approach -- didnt really work either.

You can't buy people to play for the national teams, though. Also I'm not really sure the US teams would so quickly get as much money as some of the richer European clubs. You probably don't know how much money clubs like Manchester Utd., Barcelona, Real, Inter, Chelsea, Arsenal, Milan and the like have exactly.

Yup, most of the big clubs in the premier league are up into multi billions.

I didnt end up watching the England game, My train was delayed by an hour -- I'm so glad I didnt watch it, the looks of acid all the supporters had in their eyes on the bus was enough to confirm that it wasnt a win.

Anybody know when Honduras is playing and who against?

I think you have to just be born in that country, or your parents have to from there. Something like that. Honduras plays the 16th against Chile.

Thanks.

As for playing for a country. You have to be born in a country, or your parents have to be born in a certain country.

For example -- Rooney, who's parents are Irish, was born in Liverpool. So he could play for either England of Ireland.

Just watching the Ghana vs Serbia match, I originally had Ghana tipped to make it out of the group at the expense of Serbia but I changed it after I found out about the injury to Essien. They seem a decent team, can't help but feel that with Essien, Muntari and Appiah they could be much better, shame. Krasic has been really quiet as well, to say how good a player he actually is it's been disappointing.

Don't get me started on Englands performance yesterday, luckily I was quite drunk down at the local while I watched it otherwise I'd have cried. For a manager who has such a reputation as a tactically sound and pragmatic coach, I think Capello got it aaaaaallll wrong...

And whether Jeffredo was talking about buying international players or not, I think he's dramatically underestimating just how rich the big clubs in Europe are. The likes of Real, Man City and Barca seem to have the spending power to rival that of a small government.

That's what I was thinking. Giuseppe Rossi is a good example.

Ghana win 1-0, deserved victory. Serbia were very disappointing indeed...

ITV just showed a clip of Desailly celebrating in the studio when Ghana scored, amazing!

I don't think our players will ever know how grievously they've wounded our people and how they've inflated the USA.

In fact, except for the name of the paper (obviously :P), that looks like a headline that would be right at home in the Sun.

Wow. Those letters are.. big.

My prediction for tonight: Germany 2, Australia 1. But it'll be close and I'll be cheering for the Aussies.

Rag? I wouldn't even go that far. It seems like a rather obvious joke cover to me. Something you'd see at The Onion, not the Sun.
