Eat that Beckenbauer!

Maybe they should have gone route 1?

EDIT: This group is looking fantastic now, just need the Aussies to pull one out of the bag later.

I hope that ref goes home immediately. I don't mind Germany losing, and Serbia aren't bad, but when a ref shapes the game like that everyone loses.

Gonna have to miss the USA game, I have to get some sleep before the England game, I only had 5 hours last night and England will be 2.30 am my time.

I don't see why everyone hates this referee so much. Finally a referee who has the balls to judge and whistle and show cards the way he's supposed to without protecting anyone, no matter how good or popular they are. If it's a crude foul, it's a yellow card. If it's a second crude foul, it's a second yellow card, and that's it. No philosophy, no looking at which player is good and which one is not, just looking at who does crap like that on the pitch. So what if he did his second crude foul in 38th minute, or whatever it was? He shouldn't have done it and he wouldn't have gotten the second yellow card, it's as simple as that. And as for the competent Germans, they had their penalty, why didn't they score? Now stop bashing the referee and watch the next match, it's looking interesting so far.

His decisions weren't good and he breaks the flow of football. Poor refereeing. We need Collina.

His decisions were perfect, he sends off players who think they deserve to break the flow of football simply because they play good. Just because they're Germans they should get to make any kind of foul they want without paying the price? Please. Yes, with most referees it would've worked, but I can't tell you how much I'm glad that it didn't with this one.

Look at any foul that he awarded with yellow card and tell me that the yellow card wasn't deserved. Should he have opted not to show the yellow card even though the foul deserves it just because it's early in the game and that would damage the Germans? Wait, isn't that up to Germans to take care of, that they don't make fouls for which they'll be sent off early so their team doesn't get damaged?

Well most football fans would disagree with you. Anyway, back to the USA match.

EDIT: Now that's a yellow card offense.

Well good for them then. Some fans they are, preferring that their sport is unfair.

That's not my point. My point is a card happy referee breaks the fast flow of football, and by 'most fans don't agree' I meant that a lot of us don't find those cards fair or warranted.

EDIT: Wasn't a handsball! Bad decision.

In the rules of football in the parts that say when a yellow or a red card should be brandished, there is no mention of how much time has passed since the beginning of the match, nor which team will be more damaged by the action of the player who deserved the card. If he deserved it it's his fault that he deserved it and will get it, not referee's. And the players should learn to play by the rules instead of expecting from the referee to "not break the flow of football" by forgiving them crude fouls just because it's still early in the match or something silly like that.

WHOA SLOVENIA 2-0!!!

I must say I'm very happy with this first half. We're leading 2:0 and it's because we're actually playing well. :)

IIRC USA's coach was joking with something like "What is Slovenia? Does anyone even know where that is?" (yes, typical), and the Slovenia's coach responded with "Ask the Russians."

Would have given red for that.

The ball wasn't in his possession, therefore yellow.
