Football Thread - World Cup Special V

Any good this game? I missed it as I realised I hadn't seen people since the football began. Needed to go out for big din dins.
Both sides are attacking. Only one goal though.

That goal was truly a thing of beauty. Hooray for Nederland! They're the #2 team I'm cheering for, being hal-Dutch and all. ^_^

Just saw the first USA goal from yesterday. Lol at the keeper ducking away from the ball :P

Yeah, but those guys can kick hard and at such short range the ball is almost a weapon. I heard that in that specific instance it was traveling at 117 km/h. I'd duck at less than half that speed. :P

That's why you're not an International goalkeeper :P.

I'd duck too. In fact I was afraid of defending when I was smaller because a strong shot in my face would destroy my dashing good looks. But he's a professional, he shouldn't cower behind the post.

I'd instinctively throw my hands up to protect my face, conveniently saving the shot while I'm at it! And goalkeepers should be prepared to put their body on the line!

Exactly! That and being slow and overweight and having the reflexes of a dead horse. :D

I agree with the being prepared to put your body on the line part, but it all happened very fast and the reaction was probably instinctive. I don't blame him, though I do wish he would've done what you say you would.

Wow, Australia are a new team. Scored AND should have had a penalty before that.
And Bresciano was involved, so I have a Leeds interest!

Yeah I can believe the Aussies are winning after that good hiding that Germans gave them.

I'm kind of hoping the Aussies pull through and win. They're the only team in the group without a victory.

But didn't you want to say Pantsil on the ground all the way through the match?

You haven't played football until you've thrown yourself at a shot from the oppositions best player on a freezing cold Sunday morning and take a stinger to the thigh :P

Well we need a mircle....need one of three situations to happen.

Australia must win their game agiant Serbia

and
--------------------
Germany must lose to Ghana
or
Germany must absolutely smash Ghana
and/or
Australia must absolutely smash Serbia

If the Germany v Ghana match is a low scroing match or a draw....we are out. Yes, I admit that there is little chance of us getting through now. Best hope is that Germany have another brainfart and lose to Ghana...which after watching Ghana tonight, doesnt seem possible.

I think if you win 3-0 or better then Australia will go through

More chance of that than of England beating Slovenia.

If we line up with a 4-4-2 with Heskey as a target man I'll go [censored] mental!?!?! :shocking:

http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/sport/football/worldcup2010/3020626/Madjid-Bougherra-flattered-with-Arsenal-link.html

That link as well, he played well last night against England but I haven't seen alot of him. Wouldn't say no to a squad player for £4 million though, can't be worse than Silvestre.

Whatcha think th3undon3on3?

umm....our goal difference is -4, Ghana have +1 ...so we need a combination of 5 if Germany is to win. Eg, we win 2-0, Germany wins 3-0 will put us even with Ghana.

But the Germany match cannot be a draw, if that happens then our match doesnt matter for us, no matter how high we score.
