Football Thread - World Cup Special V

Post » Wed Jan 06, 2010 6:02 am

THIS HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH AMERICAN-STYLED FOOTBALL

Just a friendly reminder - we're not interested in having discussions about what the game "should" be called, be it "soccer" or "football" or whatever, so please don't bring that kind of nonsensical arguments into here. We've gone though 14 threads of having at least one argument-per-thread, and frankly the mods are sick of having to moderate and clean up the place for flaming/trolling. So please, just leave those discussions to PMs if you really feel the need to express your opinion on it.
Anyone who ignores this warning will be reported and subsequently dealt with by the mods.

I'm sure we were about to discuss how England were going to win today? Amirite?

I'll be tactically cheering for a draw. Enough to keep Algeria in the game, so they don't lose heart and lose the third match against USA in advance, but too less to make them a threat for Slovenian advancement.

As I said in the last thread it should and hopefully will be 4-0 even with that tub lard Heskey playing

2-2 was a good result, but that dive on the 93rd minute by Dempsey was uncalled for. The other guys leg got bent a fair bit (although he was holding his face?)

Thats why I dont like footie now, too many wimps pretending to be hurt and slowing down the game.

On our TV one guy commented that the second half wasn't football anymore, it was wrestling. And the Americans were much better wrestlers.

2-2 actually is a good result, but after leading by two goals in the first half you can't but feel disappointed. Of course the American are also disappointed about that canceled third goal. So nobody is happy with the result. Well, nobody other than the English and Algerians. ;)

I'm still pretty upset about Edu's goal not counting. Still, the US showed a lot of resilience and did a great job of coming back in the second half. Hopefully, Algeria can play a very good match today and help us out.

Getting close to kick off now. Don't care about the performance or the score, just as long as we win.

Do you all want to make this thread more exciting? Make it feel like you're competing in the South African gamesas Cup?

Try http://www.vuvuzela-time.co.uk/www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1098999-football-thread-world-cup-special-v/

Now you too can compete on some of the best forums while thousands of angry bees swarm around you!

Seriously, I would enjoy watching the world cup alot more if it wasn't for the vuvuzelas constantly drowning out everything in the background.

That said, America got a little hosed, but we're not out of it. Seriously, that reffing was a catastrophe.

The Algerians are smartly camouflaged! I reckon the English will have some trouble with that.

Surprisingly both teams look like they could score a goal at the moment.

Also what happened to Green? Did he do something wrong to not be the goalie in this match? :D

Calamity James is apparently more trusted :(
Considering the excellent Nigerian and Greek Keepers have also made huge blunders it seems a bit of an overreaction.

Luckily for English though they've got Johnson's baby oil and Lennon/McCartney.

By now it's almost certainly ball trouble. The only people who have said positive things about the Jabulani are sponsored by FIFA. :meh:

Lennon looks like he should get the ball more. The defence can't handle his pace.

If the vuvuzelas were quiet I'm pretty sure we'd have heard some major whistling at the end of first half.

So far so good, but the previous game was more interesting to watch.

Well you can't really say that the match isn't interesting to watch. Lots of action and lots of opportunities on both sides. It would be better if there were goals, true, but this is definitely better than the majority of the first round matches.

England couldn't win a game of Cluedo.

And I just saw replays of the US game. You were robbed. Poor ref. It was chaos and he saw the wrong thing, he blew early.

Gah, on my third beer and we still haven't scored. The confidence of our team is clearly non existent, everyone is scared [censored]less, can't handle the pressure. Big changes need to be made at half time, Joe Cole on for Heskey, play Gerrard just behind Rooney, Joe Cole on left in a 4-4-2. No need for a target man, especially one who's horrible.

By the 5th beer I'm expecting a goal.
