Agreed, and Slovenia were in the English side quite a bit towards the end, and the one guy throwing the ball all the way back down their side, losing a ton of ground... I want England to be crushed by Germany, or anyone, so far the team has played badly, now they just win the match and its just about how great they played. Looks like they need a good loss to come back to earth.

Hardly, England always performs alot better under pressure :/

Personally if Wales Scotland or Ireland qualified, I'd sooner support them if England got knocked out than a country from outside the Isles.

But then again, Wales havent qualified in abotu 30 years now. Maybe more. Shame Ireland didnt this year.

I have no idea what World Cup you've been watching Markovandemon but there has been plenty of singing and stuff when I've been able to hear over the Vuvuzela's. Also "Three Lions" is the best England song, not that silly 442 one.

Both are good, three lions and 442. I read on twitter that you weren't allowed to sing. I was like whaaattt! I guessed it was true because well it was from a friend whos very into football like its his obsession. It was an angry tweet to say the least. I can't hear a thing other than the horns and if they are singing. Maybe its cos of the TV we have. You might have a good sound system and you can hear them. All i hear is buzzzzzzzzz.

Referees can totally influence the outcome of a game through the quality of their calls. I've AR'ed for so many guys who have given the game away (and running to the parking lot afterward is not fun, I can tell you) by making lopsided or just plain bad calls. All it takes is one phoney PK to turn on honest tie into an undeserved win.

I normally don't follow football at all, but now that Holland is doing pretty good, it is getting interesting.

We're starting slow this time, which is a nice change from Euro 2008. Soon we will once again play the football that beat Italy 3 to 0 and France 4 to 1 only two years ago!

It's about time we win the World Cup.

Hear, hear! The Dutch have always been one of my favorites in the World Cup. They play with a certain panache, which is added to by their excellent orange jerseys. Haven't been able to catch one of their games so far, though. :(

Wouldn't worry about that, the first two games were horrible to watch. :P

We're going to grow in the tournament, something we've learned from two years ago! After the first 3 matches in Euro 2008 we were one of the, if not the, favorites to win. It obviously had a negative impact.

Good game from England, ish.

Cannot believe Gerrard was on the left again, even when Joe Cole came on he stayed on the left. What the [censored]?!?! James Milner with a 5 star performance, real workhorse as well, run himself into the ground. Also, JT, what an annoying egotistical [censored], you've got to admire his commitment with the diving header block attempt though, bloody wonderful.

I'm not sure where people get the idea that singing isn't allowed. It's not like the officials would be able to stop it anyway. In the England match earlier there was lots of singing. The English were singing Rule Britannia and the national anthem in the second half.

The Dutch have always been known as the "Brazil of Europe". They play with style and skill. I always support them myself. I liked them a lot back in the days of Overmars, Stam, Kluivert, Bergkamp and De Boer and all those kinds of guys. They have been solid but unspectacular so far this tournament. I'm hoping they'll really get it going in the knockout stages.

I still don't know how we never won anything during that era. So many great players and freaking Bergkamp

Also, I might have to retract my earlier statement regarding the USA playing against a decent team (Germany). What I've seen so far is very disappointing and nowhere near the quality we saw in their first match.

The idea of singing not being allowed is laughable -- how can you stop hundred of thousands of fans, both in the stadium and around the city, from singing? I could heard Rule Britannia loud and clear over the Vuvuzelas today.

And incidentally, we've just confirmed the Lighning Seeds (singer of Three Lion on a shirt) to the music festival my department is organising come this august. Shame the festival doesnt coincide with the world cup.

I really want Ghana to qualify, whether it be 1st or 2nd. The chances have been flowing in this Germany vs Ghana game so far. The Germans are looking nervous, potentially staring down the barrel of a gun here if Serbia can pull their finger out.

Oooh my Bergkamp sense is tingling!

I loved that John Terry move. Even as an Arsenal fan.

Hmm, 1-0 Germany. I don't like Germany.

Well, in all probability, in the next round:

Germany will beat England, unless our form continues to improve and Rooney get's his head out of his [censored] in terms of scoring.

Ghana will beat USA unless they can continue to play at full capacity. I would have loved to have seen Ghana with Michael Essien though, he would have given them even more power in the midfield. Think they could be much more potent with their talisman on the field.

Ghana are so frustrating though, bags of technical ability and athleticism but the decision making in the final third has been horrible.

You can say Australia are out. Serbia just need a goal to qualify. 3 mins left, as things are Ghana and Germany will qualify.

EDIT: Almost forgot: YAY Ghana. Atleast one African team made it!
