That Samaras guy almost scored that one time, though. But overall, I agree.

Living in Scotland, I'm used to seeing Samaras (he "plays" for Celtic) pulling http://static.guim.co.uk/sys-images/Sport/Pix/pictures/2009/5/21/1242923192641/Georgios-Samaras-Celtic-001.jpg as he misses yet another sitter.

Ah Greece go out with a typical (pl)Otto for 0-0 and leave it to Nigeria straight from the 2004 handbook. Now perhaps we will get a manager in who uses our mad bad passions instead of trying to make us into a boring Germany. A very boring Germany. In the game against Nigeria we lost the plot for a brief glorious 25 minutes and had 21 strikes on goal. Less than 9 in the other two games (1 in this farce).

2004 was a miracle, but we have to move on. Panathanaikos and Olympiakos play well above their rankings in Europe, with a lot of home-grown talent, we can do it.

Bad luck to South Africa but they have their pride back, chuffed for South Korea, how many teams do you know on the brink of nuclear annihilation.

John Terry for Les Bleus! La fin. (thank heavens)Mexico and Uruguay are great. I think I mentioned everybody who matters? ;)

Heres me hoping

England to win 3-0 with Gerrard scoring the first goal.

This last match is tricky to predict. On one hand if England (and Italy) play like they did in the previous games, they're out of the WC. However this being their last chance they might just pull through.

Or maybe not, it didn't work for France.

But actually, those vuvuzelas are not that annoying to me. Since I'm kinda used to it.

In Quebec city, we call them Carnival trompet, and a lot of peaple have them during the http://www.carnaval.qc.ca/fr. (and they've been there for as long as I remember)

And at the college Football games, often many hundreds of the spectators there will have them. But not at the hockey games, because they've banned them there some years ago, and plastered huge signs saying "no horns" with a picture of one.

You want proof? http://a1.phobos.apple.com/us/r1000/047/Purple/43/03/48/mzl.kjigymog.320x480-75.jpg. This was last winter!

Don't say WC it makes me laugh. :)

And I agree with Rothwell, England are going to click this time, and just in case, I did all my work this morning and have a few beers ready, so I can quietly cry at my desk tomorrow.

Urgh, Capello's dropped Heskey for Defoe. I don't approve. If he was going to drop Heskey it should've been so Gerrard could fill in behind.

But Defoe can remember where the net is, and I bet he is hungry. Gerrard is just going to blast away from range. They need to hoof it up in the air and go route one, the Slovenians don't like it up them. (Dad's Army reference, not rude)

He had to drop Heskey for someone, although I'm not sure Defoe is the best choice...I agree that Gerrard would be the best bet

Magic, hoof it to Defoe. Told ya :P

Not so magic, my BBC link just broke after the goal. Gotta wait 10 minutes for the back up. Frantically follows MBM at the Guardian.

I'm back on the game.
The Guardian is quite good. "I rather like the fact that Slovenia's shirts feature their national symbol, the triple-summit-mountain Triglav (three heads)," writes Jan Krcmar. "I just wonder whether this idea could be exported to other competing nations. England could have a skyline of huge footballers mansions (complete with burglars). The dutch would just have a flat line on their shirt I suppose." John Terry could have a single arrow pointing down to his shorts, perhaps?

Defoe is brilliant. How could anyone ever doubt starting him?

Seriously, it was a poor finish really just even worse goalkeeping. Not complaining though. This performance is better especially in the middle of the half around the goal but we were a bit sloppy towards the end and at the start.

I aprove. Heskey is good but I'd rather keep him in reserve.

That was a fantastic run, a bad cross, with a great finish.

England seem to be on form. If they carry on performing like this, or better, I see a 3-0 or 3-1 finish for this match. Hopefully, I'm right.

Plenty of runs, plents of opportunities, the pressure is on Slovenia. All the England players are in the right place at the right time, theres just been some lucky saves and some good aves on Slovenias part.

So is anyone watching the USA:Algeria match? I'm curious how evenly matched the two really are. We can let England win if those two draw.

Not again..... US has another unfairly disallowed goal. Is it too much to ask to get a ref that isn't biased?

Yeah, you planned it eh? Letting us win? ;) ^ and bribed the other ref, good thinking!

Just saw the offside, his foot moved fractionally as the ball is kicked, it looked offside to me, I was amazed when the graphics overlaid and showed it wasn't. The problem with you Americans is you want TV replays to allow more commercial breaks. Thank god you only get interested every four years. Bad refereeing decisions are something to nurture, like a growing second evil head over many years, it's a bonding ritual for Leeds fans.

Let?

Nope, watching England. I'll watch the highlights now.

Just saw some of the Highlights and Algeria just missed out on a potentially cracing goal, just clipped the top bar.

And another great save for algeria from Gomez, good attempt by Gomez aswell.

Shame that goal was offside, was a nice recovery.

Algeria an America are playing fantatically. Although Altidore(sp?) just copletely spooned an easy shot, and the Algerian Defense could use a tweak. I think the USA has a better chance to win.

Maybe that was a poor choice of words. :D I meant it's alright for England to win as long as Slovenia still manages to advance.

Yeah, sounds pretty rough for the USA. I wouldn't say the ref is biased though (especially because the linesman would've made the call) but bad decisions are part and parcel of football. Which just means we should use video technology but try telling FIFA that.

I can see why they don't want it. Challenging calls can eat up a lot of time in (American) football, and that is a much slower paced game. Flow of play is very important in soccer; it would really bite to have to take five minutes for a video review.

More accountability for the refs seems like a better option to me (and I am a ref :P).
